Rose Bush Love

Our love was like a rose bush
beautiful and safe from a distance
but dare you take the chance to step closer
you may get pricked 

your thorn enveloped stems 
wrapped around my neck like a noose 
leaving me unable to breathe 
or even to speak

what started out as drops of blood 
soon became a waterfall 
and the metallic crimson juice
mixed with my salty tears
 
your love was like a rose bush
its scent sickly sweet 
compelling me to do whatever it pleased
whenever you wanted
 
but one thing you didn’t want was love
you wanted an object
a plaything that you could control
you never wanted my love
