Desolation

I lie here in this damned dirt ditch
Tossed aside to rot alone
The lights are dark, the world is spinning
The voices inside tell me to hide

I search for someone, anything
Something to occupy my time
No trace nor sign of any life
The voices inside tell me to hide

Hide, yes, but from what?
There’s nothing to hide from
Everything is gone
The voices inside tell me to hide

Bodies litter the streets with death
Ruins of skyscrapers crumble within
There’s nothing to hide from
The voices inside tell me to hide

I’m all alone on this vacant Earth
Bombs and bullets brought a swift end
Like a candle, we were snuffed out
The voices inside tell me to hide

Hide from WHAT?
I see no one, no soul, no person
No life, no hope, all death
The voices inside tell me to hide

I bang my head against the ground
There’s nothing to hide from
There’s nothing to hide from
The voices inside tell me to hide

I stand up and scream
Echoing around the globe
There’s nothing to hide from
The voices inside tell me to hide

What will I do, what will I do?
To make it stop, I must hide
But from who, from what, from where?
The voices inside tell me to hide

I climb a rickety, jagged building
Twisted metal racking the air
I will climb to the top of this tower
The voices inside tell me to hide

I got to the top, and gazed below
No people, no animals, no vegetation in sight
How will I survive in this lonesome world
The voices inside tell me to-

Wait
I got it
I’m supposed to hide from myself
In this desolate world

I hold my arms out in a cross formation
Maybe they’re up there in the clouds
Or maybe down there under the dirt
I step off the building and begin to fall

The voice
Inside
Tell me
To die
