Humility

I found myself eating grass, acting foolishly
Running with animals, untamed in the fields
One day reason was granted
This understanding was painful
Reaching out I cried for help
Then a Wind heard my plea
Took pity and carried me off
Offered protection and shelter
Gave back all that was lost
Whispered, “Oh Nebuchadnezzar”
“I’ve waited for you”
Showed how love worked
Forced my soul to hear
What was given before was nothing
Compared to what lay ahead
Miradas del destino
Rodeado con Amor
This is what is to be of this
I smile and move
Como un hombre

Hand In the Cookie Jar

Stopped at the light
Looked over and there she was
Smiling, laughing then waving
Cause she was caught

I chuckled, her at me
She didn't turn, neither would I
Light turned green, it was time to go
Her number I needed to know
Trapped by glass
This couldn't start nor could it last

Waved in small goodbyes
Pressed the pedal and broke the ties

But man was she pretty

Me Without My Rifle, I Am Nothing

Metal never pierced flesh or bones
Ligaments weren’t shattered in dashing haste
Not decorated with purple stones
For my heart hid from that waste
Sand and fear my tongue still taste

Born to die in hellish fire
Infernal flame, spirit crushed ready for
Assured last breath, in deathly mire
I shut down and lay in war
Thoughts race, scream and roar

I’m afraid

Escaped the valley of abyss
Return to applauds and cheers
All is well they claim and hiss
But I’m clothed in heavy years
In stormy sands, all's unclear

Did I cease to be?
So much loss for what was fought
My humanity
Walking dead in thought
Wilting heart was caught

Won’t let most too close
Then they’d see
Moisture trails that only froze
Can’t contain the mine that bleeds
Vulnerable to evil Deeds

So I pretend to feel
Watch as they laugh and sing
Being human taught to kill
Focused on how to life they cling
Waiting for my time to spring

What am I without my rifle
To do what I was trained
Taking life was mere trifle
Do I cease to be again
Letting go of this friend

But how, but how
I was raised to end life
For those I loved with strong vows
For those who don’t know strife
We were sacrificed

Letting go, the roaring sea
Placing weapon down, reaching honesty
I lay with peace and feel the touch of God
Emerge from that desperate fog

I see as a child
Staked rifle down for the vine to grow awhile
I am clean
All is not what it seemed

Open the Castle Door

Sitting off to myself
She notices, sits across from me
Her smile lures me back
To the world my heart broke for
Hooks me with her glance
Looks as though she wants to talk
Is she interested
I don’t know if I should resist
But I’m scarred, eyes are tired
Should I let you in
And hope you won’t hurt me
Let me see what the Spirit of the Universe
Has to say about this “Open the gate!”
I drop my castle door
Look up and smile back

Lost

Awaken to sounds of flight, machines in the distance
Muffled sounds from fire watch
Bellowing to arms to arms
Planes humming, men rising from their slumber

The sky was dark, silhouettes dimmed the stars
Unapproachable rays and milky ways faded
As the Reaper flew over way
With tools of trade

Squinting indistinctly it had begun
To my feet, roused to the berm
In celebration I danced with wolves of war
Marines gathering for the kill

Then I recognized the sound of Thunder
In the distant flashes of light, insidious it was
Thump, Thump Boom
Thump, Boom

The feeling of black, the approach of stillness
Where nothing exist
Such a sight, watched in awe as the sand shook my feet
Would we be brave?

Leathernecks cheered
And the Sentry yelled, “To arms to arms”
In innocence I encouraged death
My thoughts trapped in haunting recollection

I bear in mind, If only we knew
I died with them
If only I knew lost I was that night
My soul hidden in the desert

And in my dreams to arms, to arms, to arms

Farming Trolls

Shoot the cannons don’t you feel!
See the blood, makes the grass grow
Battle field kings no time to heal
Tear limps and lives from our foes
Sickles in the hands of trolls

Farmlands of ploughs and blades
Monster’s coming so we run
Memories of heroes and parades
Fade as some lose a son
A father, husband, death has one

Their troll is loud and vicious
Seeking vengeance from death’s toll
Scattered in black holes with malicious
Waiting under the knoll
The plough no man controls

The land gave the fruit, then was pressed
Where men crawled and cried
Some lived but lost soul’s breath
Some teared for their wives
With thoughts of future lives

I made it home, sit and wonder
What was it all for
Why emotions stayed in slumber
Why I miss war
Chained to this yore

So my dreams come at night
The farmer and his tools
Taking cover, with some sprite
Yet the farmer and his ghouls
Pull the plough with his bulls

As I run from the troll and his sickle

My Secret Butterfly

Spread your sails
Don’t think too much
If you'd only not
Look her way

But there you are
Precious, stay, I pray
Don't float about
Your love is torture

Punish me

With your kisses
Make true my wishes
Become my new
Imagine, almost missed this

Be still on the flower
Eyes towards that tower
The sight of your wings
My heart skips in that hour

Punish me

With your view
Clothed in your hue
My future will miss
The lack of you

Faith

Last night I cried
realized no one will understand
This is for only those
Who have seen the fire
No longer trying to explain
Sleeping, Knowing I would run
Into that storm again
For the protected children
Tarnishing my soul
But I give this heart
To the overcomer
To the eye whose apple I am
Wake to the sound of reveille
Time to stand from your slumber
Who can stand against me
For the tallest stands within

Down the Hill

Taking our time
Flowing, going, stepping smoothly down
Conversing with her from out of town

Walking, floating, introducing ourselves
So pleasant was the talk, I postponed my run
Eucalyptus lowered branches to hear our fun

Slowly, time fleeting moving closer towards her
There was pain in her eyes, I could only smile
I had been there, from which I walked awhile

It was so nice to meet, my heart fluttered
I wished her luck, “fue un placer,” she replied
Off I go, telling myself at least try

Jogging my thoughts stood on that chance encounter

Hoping, thinking that I would look for her again
That by any luck, love let me not relent
For Teresa and her Cuban Accent

Sitting

Watching the ocean, it's waves, how it's never still
Seeking truth in the void
Swimming towards light, holding back, drowning
Rays of light piercing a vast empty
In return I wither away and see more of self
Cracking breaking evolving into something
To where I am alone but not abandoned
Understanding and not knowing
Floating aware that I am here
What is to be of this?
Without Judgment
Waiting, the trumpet of soldiers
For battle cries
Accepting that place
Made up of tranquility, laughter, joy, death
Surrendering to Him
Patiently, looking at the restless sea.
