Purpose

The trees dance to the song of the wind with an emphasis on a moment never to return again.
A lonesome leaf descends a tired, twirling, float to the ground,
as the wind breathes life once more
to toss it all around.
Effortlessly swept
and gliding along the sky,
is the ephemeral beauty
of a leafs attempt to fly.
Upon a branch with time it grew,
washed by rain with color renewed,
among the rest with no obvious difference;
To the average eye,
there is no interest.
Until one day, the stem grew weak,
and the swaying tree felt the leaf break away.
The dancing tree
watched in awe with me,
the fleeting sight of a leaf carried in the breeze.
Not one head turned,
and no one else noticed,
but for me,
time stopped within that moment.
A tiny object that once belonged to a bigger existence,
broke away to find itself with beautiful persistence.
Departing from the tree,
the leaf began an ascent
to the sound of the winds bellowing lament.
Determined to value an insignificant connection,
like two lovers inseparable,
the wind accentuated the leafs perfection. The heights achieved
were never as profound
as the sight of a leaf that delicately danced to the ground.
