The Shadow Box

Locked inside a viewing case
My heart is on display
For everyone to see the bruises
And see all the many abuses
A broken can convey

A passerby would probably notice
A few parts still in tact
Hardly recognized amongst the tattered
Pieces that have been shattered
From the fury of my past

People used to say
Look how beautiful and strong
It's so consistent in its beating
Never thinking it would be leading
Down a path that could be wrong

You wouldn't know that now
It's frozen in its case
Hardly moving, barely there
But if you took the time to stare
You would see something not taken at face

Still amongst the weary
Heart that once was strong
A small beat can be seen
And it has a certain gleam
That has been there all along

How Clarity Becomes Unclear

I watched you walk away
I was left here standing with nothing to say
And as the tears ran down my cheeks
I remembered the times, when it was just you and me

When the smiles covered the fears
When the laughing wiped the tears
And I wish things were the same
But nothing covers this pain

Where are you now?
And what have you found?
To keep your heart away from me
I wanted so much more
I know this for sure
I would have given anything
And I would show you now
I would make you see
I would make it clear
But you're not here

And everything I see brings back the times
When you were here with me
I still see your eyes, I still feel your touch
And I'm missing you so much

OH i wonder if you miss me too
And I wonder if ill ever get through
Will I ever see the sun?
How can I move on?

Where are you now?
And what have you found?
To keep your heart away from me
I wanted so much more
I know this for sure
I would have given anything
And I would show you now
I would make you see
I would make it clear
But you're not here
