Curtis Matheny Poem
Upon awakening, there is that
brief moment between two
worlds, when you're not sure
where the dream ends and
reality begins, where some
elements of both seem to blend
together. Then slowly,
responsibility strangles the joy
of carelessness, the weight of
the world crushes the beautiful
fantasy, and the harsh realities
of life drown the blissfulness
that once was everything, and
even if you go back to sleep
you can never return to where
you'd rather dwell forever in
happiness. Now if this feeling
occurs and you were never
really asleep...you become
trapped in a living nightmare,
and the dream life you've been
sleepwalking through is forever
dead. May you keep your eyes
closed forever...and never
wake up.

Curtis Matheny Poem
...and we've all been burned
before, yet we are fascinated
with the fire. Every one of us
has been careless with our
hearts, but the love we shared
was worth the blood we shed.
And those of us who are
wise...the ones who know the
risk but gamble with love
anyway, live without
regrets...for though we
continue to build up walls
around our hearts, the hopeless
romantics always leave a few
bricks loose...with hopes that
someone will still find a way in
with enough time and effort.
And though tomorrow may find
us heartbroken...today we
choose to live in this moment.
We will always chase those
butterfly feelings yet never
count the tears...for infatuation
becomes adulation, and then
love blossoms like wild flowers
after a spring rain...never
wondering if they will be
scorched by the sun tomorrow,
but instead opening themselves
to feel beautiful...if only for
today.

Curtis Matheny Poem
As the earth leans into the sun,
mother natures favorite
daughter awakens from her
cold deep slumber and shakes
off her snowy blanket. Her eyes
wide and bright reflecting
warmth, the breath of her yawn
a southerly breeze, and her
arms stretching and extending
with flowers from the fields.
Spring has finally awakened!

Curtis Matheny Poem
...and all of heavens
angels were jealous of what we
had shared together...and I
knew this because when we
kissed I heard them all at once
give out a sigh of longing, a
breath of wanting for what we
felt together in that moment. In
one heavenly accord they sang
without words a song of
passion and despair, for every
single one of them would have
traded eternity to have lived for
one second in that sweet
embrace...to live in that feeling
we shared that they were never
created to understand, yet
could not turn away from. And I
no longer feared death,
because I had already died in
your arms...and I was
resurrected from a life of
eternal despair...and I knew
that something so strong would
save me from the darkness.
Together forever in that
passionate embrace, we
became one...one heart,
inseparable...and no time or
distance could ever tear us
apart.

Curtis Matheny Poem
...and all of the sudden the
wind came crashing in, and all
my fathers wind chimes began
to play a hauntingly violent yet
mesmerizing melody. And we
were caught in that moment,
and time stood still, and I
raptured you into my arms and
held you there...and we
shivered into each
other...unable to move from
that place in time. And I stared
so deep into your eyes that I
could see the past, present and
future pass together as one
moment...and I could not let
go, I would never let go of that
moment when we shared the
same breath, the same
heartbeat, the same soul...and
I knew then and there that I
could live ten lifetimes and
nothing could ever match that
one eternal moment that we
will always share
together...forever frozen in
time.

Curtis Matheny Poem
Welcome to my world, welcome
to the dark void. Things are
always darkest before the
dawn...but not here. Here there
is no dawn, only perpetual
night. Here we are the new
vampires, cursed to know what
we had but can never have
again. I pray you find a way
out. And if you do, show others
the way. But for some of
us...some of us will never sleep
again.
