My Grandmother

She is so tired yet, cannot find sleep
The watery eyes make me want to weep
She is more fragile than a newborn child
Just waiting in silence, so meek and so mild
Holding my hand to give her more ease
Asking for help with such silent pleas
She is so weak and afraid to be alone
Wanting to live in her own little home
One day she'll find the sleep she so needs
There'll be no more pain for she'll be at peace
In God's home she will preside
In His Faith she will have died
Looking down upon us with watchful eyes
When it rains, they'll be tears from her eyes
When it is warm I will think of her touch
From the blankets she covered me 'cause she loved me so much
I will never forget this dear love of mine
And, I know someday she'll be all well and fine
She will be able to walk among the trees
And all the beautiful things her eyes will see
No more darkness will she bear
Because she'll be with Him on the Golden Stair.

Plastic Fremds

Am I to conform to you to be who you want me to be or I to you
Were we to hold fast to our ideals or tell each other what we truly feel
Or are we to be the mold of a Barbie doll that we once played with in days of old
Is it that we do the things in which we are automatically told
Who are we to each other when we force our smiles through barred teeth
You whisper to the side when you think I don’t see to the one beside you
You think I can’t hear the wheels that turn in your mind behind those dark eyes
I am not blind to your intentions I have been behind that stare so many times
before
You claim to be my friend you say you feel my pain and you will always be there
for me
Where were you when I reached out to you with arms outstretched on bended
knee
Fire burning my face from the tears that stained my cheeks as I called to you and
you were not there
You said you would never leave me you said you’d always care
To me you are like a credit card in my wallet useful to some extent but it has its
limits
It is made of plastic and is an imitation of the real thing just like you
It can be spent like money it can buy me many things but it has a daily limit just
like you
Once that limit has been reached its useless until the next day
And, like a credit card, it has a lifetime limit as well it has a maximum limit just
like you
Once its reached that limit its rendered useless forever just like you have been to
me
Why are you a plastic friend?
