Finally Home

She's finally home

Weary no more from life's hard toil
Rest in God's everlasting hold
Peace and happiness Satan can't foil
Just as to us, the Lord Jesus has told

She's finally home

A grand reunion in the sky
No considering life's past woes
Not one tear, every eye is wiped dry
Basking in love that eternally flows

She's finally home

Renewed, restored, perfect and whole
Relieved from life's burdensome chore
Walking with Jesus on streets of gold
Carefree elation is her's evermore

She's finally home

Mushroom Hunting With Dad

When springtime comes, I'm always glad
To go mushroom hunting with my dad
Walking in the woods on a cool, spring day
Taking in the beauty of God's display

It's just like a treasure hunt to me
Searching for those gems amongst the leaves
What a thrill, when one I think I spy
But it's just a leaf, so I pass on by

Then at last, I spot a beauty
And by it's side, three little cuties
A pinch to the stems, then placed in my sack
I hope to fill it till there's no more slack

On through the woods we trek, Dad and me
Then stop in our tracks in disbelief
Under an apple tree stands a whole bunch
Enough for more than one supper and lunch

On some such hunts, we may find a lot
Other times, not one mushroom we'll spot
No matter, we still enjoy the hike
Doing something together we like

These times with my Dad I'll always treasure
Nice memories I'll always remember
Just thinking of it makes me glad
Going mushroom hunting with my dad.

Advice For Young Parents

Enjoy your children while they are still small
for when kids grow up, they tend to get tall
and will no longer be able to snuggle up on your lap
or won't need to be rocked for an afternoon nap

They won't want you to read them a story time book
No more counting the toes on their cute, chubby foot
or watching them pretend, engrossed in dress-up play
be it a cowboy or bride, their imagination on display

NOW is the time to cradle them in your arms
and to savor and cherish all their baby charms
To play games of Patty-Cake and Peek-a-boo
while their entire world still revolves around you

True, there will be days when you long for some down time
You'll feel tired and frazzled, but please keep in mind
your small ones will grow up, oh, so very, very fast
Before you know it, their childhood will be a thing of the past

Yes, you'll thank the Lord they grew up healthy and tall
But you'll sometimes wish they were still rather small
Take my advice and enjoy them now, while you can
for your children will never be children again

My Musical Tastes

My taste in music is not a single
But rather many that intermingle
A favorite tune can make me tingle
For I love to hear a familiar jingle

Romantic ballads cause me to swoon
Play an Irish tune, I'll dance like a loon
A bluegrass song ends way too soon
I could listen to Big Band and swing til noon

A Classical arrangement is, well, classy
The Spanish guitar sounds so snappy
And Rockabilly can be downright snazzy
Those jazz numbers are, you guessed it, jazzy

Just don't ask me too quick
For my favorite music to pick
Of one style, the other can't lick
So to a variety of tastes I will stick

This Mother's Plea

I once had a bright, little gem
How she'd sparkle, how she'd shine
With laughing eyes and a perpetual smile
What a gem, that daughter of mine

But one day the smile faded
And the laughter left her eyes
Somehow my little gem turned dark and cloudy
Such a change made this mother cry

I miss my bright, little jewel
I no longer recognize
The dim and gloomy gem that has lost her sheen
Brokenhearted, this mother sighs

Can my gem's luster be restored?
I wonder, what would it take?
Perhaps some of God's tumbling and polishing
Please, oh Lord, for this mother's sake

Philosophy of a Housewife

The furniture needs a dusting
The floors mopped and swept
The bathroom needs a scrubbing
The evening meal to prep

Dirty dishes line the counter
The laundry's in a heap
Pet hair on the cushions
The windowpanes are streaked

In such disarray, I'm overwhelmed
I really should get hopping
But, tomorrow IS another day
I think I'll just go shopping!

The Bridge

An obstruction can be overcome by building a bridge
Whether the obstacle is of land or of sea
But the bridge most essential to all of mankind
Is the one that leads to God, no other way to Him we'll find

With three nails and a cross, Jesus built us a bridge
To carry us across sin's deep abyss
There is no other way, for without Him we are lost
Jesus saves with a bridge made of three nails and a cross

God the Father was willing to send His only Son
God the Son obeyed and left His home on high
Born of a virgin by God's Spirit, clothed in humanity
Born to die, to rise again, He bridged the gap for you and me

We are such loathsome sinners, while God is so pure
It's impossible to match His perfect ways
No earthly bridge can reach over a chasm so wide
Only one such bridge exists, the one that Jesus provides

With three nails and a cross, Jesus built us a bridge
It's the only way to span sin's great divide
He offered up His life, there is no greater cost
Thank the Lord, He built a bridge with three nails and a cross

There has been many bridges built by the hands of men
Much skillfulness and toil they did employ
But none can be compared to, or was made with such love
As the bridge our Lord supplies for us, that leads to God above

Jesus offers free passage for you to cross that bridge
It's the only way, the Bible tells us so
No toll is required, it was paid for with His blood
Accept His gracious gift and He will guide you by His love

With three nails and a cross, Jesus built us a bridge
It's the only way to span sin's great divide
He offered up His life, there is no greater cost
I'm so thankful He built a bridge with three nails and a cross

No Fear

I do not shudder at the thought of my passing
For my Lord has promised me life everlasting
Death will seem to have fulfilled its endeavor
But instead, I'll be more alive than ever

I need not fear the icy kiss of death
At that moment when I take life's last breath
For the Lord Jesus Christ will usher me home
In His loving arms, I won't be alone

In those last final moments, He'll come to my side
And gently lead me to where I'll abide
Warmly embraced in His loving care
Forever and ever in Heaven so fair

Here's just a little glimpse of what Heaven is like
No sorrows, no tears, carefree as a tike
Pure joy and happiness that will never end
Wouldn't you like to have a part in this, my friend?

Do you have the same peace and assurance as I
To carry you through on the day that you die?
For the time will come, just as sure as you were born
So it's crucial, today, to get right with the Lord

If you choose to reject Him, let this be your warning:
You choose an eternity of sorrow and mourning
An unending state of torturous dying
Apart from God's love, you'll be moaning and crying

He patiently waits, but please don't delay
Make your Creator also your Savior, today
Repent of your sins, His forgiveness you'll receive
Give Jesus your heart, trust and believe

He's our Mediator to God the Father
There's no other way, so don't even bother
Take no heed to false religions of today
For those counterfeit beliefs claim to show the way

But Jesus says He is the Life, the Way, the Truth
That He has risen from the dead is the living proof
So ask, and He'll be with you at your final breath
How wonderful it is to have no fear of death!

God Is...

God's joy is like...
A brilliantly colored double rainbow viewed after a storm

God's mercy is like...
A mighty oak tree bending low in the violent wind

God's peace is like...
The gentle morning rain that plays a soothing melody on my roof

God's beauty is like...
A spectacular crimson and violet winter sunset gleaming down on the glistening
snow

God's love is like...
A mourning dove that gathers her young under her soft, protective wing

God is...Joy
God is...Mercy
God is...Peace
God is...Beauty
God is...Love

Ode To Todd (1963-2001)

I would like to tell you
About Todd, our brother
He was one of a kind
Unlike any other

Todd played a mean banjo
He could sing like a pro
The group that he played in
Would put on a good show

Todd knew all about cars
Fixed their faults everytime
He bought them, he sold them
Seems he owned every kind

Friend John took him flying
A thrill Todd did enjoy
Loved to ride his Goldwing
His favorite grown-up toy

Todd cruised on the bike trail
He couldn't be kept down
Days at Mid-Ohio
Car shows out of town

Dedicated at work
Though health was not ample
Optimistic fighter
To all, an example

Todd, a loving father
A son, and a brother
Grandson, uncle and friend
Unlike any other.
