All God's Creatures

So many creatures
that God did make -
some live in the mountains,
some swim in the lake.

Many are large,
many are small,
many are short,
and many are tall.

They all have a purpose -
this I know and trust -
kindness to all of them
from us is a must.

The giraffes eat from
up top the trees -
it must be amazing
all they can see.

The lion is the king,
with a ferocious roar -
the eagle is majestic
as above us it does soar.

Dogs and cats
give us loyalty and love -
their dedication and companionship
could only come from above.

Snakes move silently -
they slither on the ground -
they sneak up on their prey
without a single sound.

Dolphins swim playfully
in the deep blue sea -
they are just as smart
as you and me.

Insects and rodents
are everywhere a man looks -
On them alone
could be written a million books.

I could go on and on
for many, many pages -
the point I want to make
must be applied to people of all ages.

We owe it to all of God’s other creatures
to live in harmony and peace -
the senseless cruelty and outright neglect
must right now simply cease.

The world is plenty big enough
for them, you, and I -
we can all live together
if we are just willing to try.

Celebrate Differences

There are so many people scattered all over this earth -
the numbers keep increasing, with every single birth.

Everyone is different, no two are alike –
we each have our own purpose – from the elderly to the tyke.

Heavy, thin, gay and straight – no one is the same.
Black, white, yellow, and pink – we each have a name.

Some of us will become well-known, and some will choose to stay hidden -
forcing everyone to be the same, should strictly be forbidden.

It takes all kinds to run this earth – all with different tasks.
When everyone stays true to themselves – only then may we take off the masks.

So my friends, be proud of who you are -
that is how the world will survive and the reason it has come this far.

Be Yourself

I am not a wealthy person –
I am not a beauty queen.
I don’t have eternal youth
and my overall purpose is yet to be seen.

I am not an accomplished athlete
or a famous star.
I tend to be quite ordinary
and I certainly don’t drive a fancy car.

I tend to be quite moody
and am easily depressed.
I don’t make friends easily
and some days it’s a struggle, simply to get dressed.

I like to spend my time alone
and hang out with my dog.
I am not very good at socializing –
In fact, I’ve often been called a “bump on a log.”

But recently I was enlightened -
By a man who looked me in the eye.
He told that wanting everyone the same
is really just a big lie.

He said we need to be ourselves
and who we were meant to be.
That trying to be like everyone else
will only bring misery.

So go forth now
and rid yourself of despair -
Because only when you are happy with you –
You won’t want to hide out in your lair.

Don’t be sorry
and do not apologize –
Just be the best you
and a happy life, you will realize.

Happy Place

Everyone needs a happy place
that can be used as a hideaway -
A place that when you go there,
you’ll definitely want to stay.

It can be an actual place
or a place in your mind –
It just needs to be for you,
a place that’s one of a kind.

When times get tough
and you’re close to your limit,
escape to this place
and hide right in it.

Leave reality behind
and push your worries aside -
It is a must for you
to leave the real world outside.

This place must be,
for you very safe -
a place where you
with yourself can touch base.

When you can’t get away
and leave reality,
at least find a space
where you can yourself be.

Once in your place,
relaxation is a must -
you need to unwind -
in that you can trust.

My happy place would
around animals be -
only around animals
can I have serenity.

So make sure you know
where your happy place resides -
you never know what
around the next corner lies.

If You Were To Die Today

The world would go on.

The chaos would continue.
The confusion would remain.
Wars would still be fought.
Soldiers would continue to die.

The world would go on.

Babies would be born.
People would continue to die.
Hunger would still plague many.
Selfishness would still hinder millions.

The world would go on.

Traffic would remain hectic.
Accidents would continue to happen.
Gunshots would still be heard.
Children would continue to be hurt.

The world would go on.

Flowers would continue to blossom.
Seasons would continue to change.
Leaves would still change colors.
Springtime would still bring smiles.

The world would go on.

Children would continue to learn.
New love would continue to flourish.
Kindness would still be prevalent.
Humanity would still be plentiful.

The world would go on.

But there would be something missing.
There would be something different.
Your death would leave an empty cavern.

Your family would mourn.
Your friends would grieve.
Your absence would be noticed.
You would be missed.

But the world would still go on.

The War In My Head

The war continues in my head –
The enemy bombarding my thoughts
Day after day, night after night –
Never allowing me time to rest and regroup.

My defensive line is losing ground as the enemy advances.
There is chaos among the ranks –
Exhaustion has set in, the arsenal is almost empty,
And I have no more reinforcements.

The troops are tired and overwhelmed –
There has been talk of retreat –
They fear defeat will soon be coming.

Over the horizon, it is easy to see the enemy approaching –
Heavily armed with an array of weapons.

The enemy’s attack of my thoughts and feelings intensifies –
With the goal of wearing us down –
Pummeling us until we can no longer fight back –
Until all we can do is lay down our weapons and surrender.

I am starting to fear that this is a losing battle -
A battle we cannot win.

Fear

Fear is an evil demon that

Erodes your sense of security, comfort, and safety

As well as hampers your ability to function

Ruining any chance you have of normalcy

Depression

Doubt and despair

Enveloped in sadness

Plus a large dose of hopelessness

Reaching into your inner core

Eroding your heart and soul

Senseless thoughts, yet unyielding

Sorrow reigns free

Isolation is desired, yet it

Only serves to deepen the hold

Never letting you escape its unrelenting grip

We Are Human

I live, I die.
I laugh, I cry.

I think, I create.
I love, I hate.

I am jealous, I am mad.
I am happy, I am sad.

I forge, I feed.
I want, I need.

I Am Human.

You listen, you feel.
You give, you steal.

You begin, you end.
You receive, you send.

You murder, you bury.
You give birth, you marry.

You educate, you learn.
You buy, you earn.

You Are Human.

We sit, we leap.
We play, we sleep.

We write, we read.
We follow, we lead.

We hurt, we sin.
We lose, we win.

We walk, we drive.
We fail, we strive.

We Are Human.

A Knock On Your Door

I am death.
Death is my name.

I am sometimes predictable.
Yet, I am often unexpected.

I am usually feared.
Yet, I am often welcomed.

I can cause grief.
Yet, I can also bring relief.

Most people wait until I come for them.
Yet, some people choose to seek me out.

Do not run from me.
You will not win.
You cannot escape me.

When your time comes, I will come for you –
whether you are ready for me or not.

It is inevitable that I will visit you –
some place, some time.
This is a promise that will never be broken.

When it is your time to meet me,
please answer my knock.
For if you do not,
I will simply let myself in and find you.

You may narrowly escape me once –
maybe even twice.
But in the end, I will ultimately
claim you as my own.

I do not discriminate –
not by race, not by age, not by gender
and not by the amount of money you may have.

It is senseless to think you can outsmart me
with all of your latest technology.
Do not be fooled –
your new gadgets and gimmicks
will not keep me from coming for you –
when it is your time to join me.

No one can stop the inevitable.

So please go now and enjoy life -
enjoy the time you have left without me –
the time you have before I come and knock on your door.
