Grandmother

There’s not a woman like her, nor one that can replace her;
In her arm’s I laid barely a day old,
In her arm’s I’ve laid and cried at the age I am now.
When God took her, he took me,
A part of me, she was, and I a part of her.
Grandmother,
The woman I sang with,
The woman I shared dinner with,
The woman I laughed with,
Shared my thoughts with,
Shared my deepest secrets with.
The woman I cried with,
Cried for,
Prayed for,
And prayed with.
The woman who I spent most of my life with,
The woman who raised me.
Deep in my soul she lives,
But where is my soul? I can’t find it,
For she was my soul,
My spirit,
The spine in my back.
With her I knew not a person in the world could hurt me,
She stood strong for me, protected me…believed in me.
Stand up for yourself, she told me, don’t let no body walk over you. Or hurt you.
And I will always protect you, speak up, speak loud.
She stood strong, and spoke vociferously to everyone she liked, or didn’t like,
And about everything she believed in.
Her hand’s full of God’s touch, God’s healing.
Eyes of an Angel, she could see through anyone, she saw the truth in everything and everyone,
She could tell a person more about themselves than what they knew.
You couldn’t out speak her, because, she was outspoken.
With her hands she cleaned, and changed the dirty diapers of her children and grandchildren,
With her hands she cooked for us, she handed out discipline,
She held,
She prayed.
She could see deep into your soul,
Into your heart,
Into your mind,
She made people love her with kindness,
Just the way I did.
For years she was, my Grandmother,
My mother,
My father,
My friend,
She was all I had.
Grandmother she is and always will be,
The spirit of my soul,
The soul of my spirit,
Every day I remember, she lives in me,
She is me,
I am her.
Grandmother...Grand woman
