Unexpected

Every day, every where, Lives are lost it’s never fair. You don’t know the numbers, Most haven’t felt the pain, Death is no doubt the all time mental strain. Whether it’s a dog, cat, family member, or friend, Most don’t know for sure when their life will end. Elementary school were the hardest years, I ended 5th grade with 5 times the tears. Death shouldn’t be joyful, it shouldn’t be funny, When a friend dies, my day is anything but sunny. When a family member or friend dies my heart starts to sink, What were the last words I said, I start to think. As I take a walk down memory lane, I start feeling all the emotional pain. You may ask why I’m writing a poem about death, For all I know this could be my last breath.

Learning From Failure

When you fail, you must move on,
Life is continuous, you’re never done,
It’s not learning to fail, but learning from failing,
You can’t spend your life weeping and wailing,
Failure at times is the best way to learn,
Life’s unpredictable through every twist and turn,
Don’t look to fail, but if you do,
The chances are you’ve learned something new,
When life is good, don’t think you are free,
From the grip of the bad inside of thee,
Just remember this,
If you fail there is a way out,
Learn from the past, don’t sit there and pout.

The Words That Hurt

A person starts a rumor and it spreads,
It spreads like fire fueled by diesel gas,
It leaves people crying in their beds,
The fire spreads faster on very dry grass,
The time passes by but nothing changes,
The receivers of abuse get no help,
They don’t like to have hurtful exchanges,
They don’t like to shout, they don’t want to yelp,
As time proceeds the pain will not die down,
It will keep on going until the end,
In their tears they will eventually drown,
Little do they know help’s around the bend,
God heard all of their countless fearful cries,
They no longer live with tears in their eyes.

The Folded Jet

You start with a paper so crisp and white,
You redo the first fold until it’s just right.
You continue to fold it whichever way,
If only the folds would decide to stay.
You crease it and crease it until at last,
The plane zooms past the Mazda, which travels fast.
But no sooner than it left your hand,
It found its way into the plastic trash can

Goodbye To An Austin Angel

She was headed off to college at 18 years old,
News of the crash leaked out, and the mood turned cold.
She was the best person you could ever know,
When she danced with her team she put on a show.
Recently in Ohio, I found this rock,
With its angelic shape I found this cross-walk.
In the crosswalk I found my old best friend,
If only my heart could find a way to mend.
As a young country singer once sang,
“18 years have come and gone,”
It’s hard at this point, it’s hard to move on,
I guess it’s time to move down the line,
I need a reassuring sign to ease my mind.
Goodbye my friend, may heaven treat you well,
In the past, I will no longer dwell.
Hello my guardian angel, you are my eyes,
For you are with God, and He is wise.
Goodbye Tracie Lynn, you made people smile,
I’ll be there for you after a while.

Washington

To start the day I put on my hat,
To my surprise out flew a gnat.
I was startled by this creature with the smallest of wings,
So much that I dropped every bit of my things.
If it was a wasp and I was stang,
The highest musical note would have been sang.
As you can see if you look at my shin
My pain tolerance level is far from thin.
As I walk past this huge dog with this lethal tail he wags,
A baseball couldn’t measure up to the size of this dog’s tags.
If he bites me, which I hope he does not,
For I have not yet gotten a rabies shot.
It looked straight at me and I began feeling hot,
This feeling is explained by how nervous I got.
And as I headed towards the stadium hoping tonight for the win,
Snowflakes started falling, not one had a twin.
The fires in the distant campgrounds were quickly turned to ash,
This poem ends as I stepped onto the field’s marked hash.

The Purple and White Zig Zagged Kite

It was 4:04, late in the afternoon,
My mom shouted, honey please come in soon.
There was supposedly a storm nearby that was pretty heavy,
Little did I know that it was just beyond that brand new Chevy.
Before I knew it, the storm hit the Jones’s home,
The storm was just starting its long and deadly roam.
The kite’s zig zag pattern resembled the lightning in the sky,
When it was suddenly struck down I just had to wonder why.
As I looked at the remains of a once beautifully crafted kite,
I felt the ruined gift given to me by my cancer-struck grandmother, Jane Louise Wright.
I thanked God in that instant that the lightning didn’t strike me flat,
Throughout the darkened town, raindrops fell with a splat.
Later the next day I kneeled by the 46 year old barn,
Then buried the remains along with the yarn.

Thank you to Carol Brown for starting my journey off with such positive words.

Pardon Me Miss

Pardon me, did you just,
Fill my heart full of trust,
Protect it so it wouldn’t bust,
You stole my eyes, from second #1,
You’ll know me well,
We’ll have plenty of fun,
When I see you, I can’t help but smile,
I express my thoughts,
In a very unorthodox style,
Poetry is my way to speak,
For when I talk to you, my voice turns weak.
Time will tell where we belong,
With our connection,
We can't go wrong.

Confidence

Every day I will excel,
Where I end up,
Only time will tell,
I hope to succeed in life’s hardest times,
And keep my problems inside these rhymes,
Every missed moment is the shutting of a door,
Luckily I know that will open plenty more,
The chances I’ve gotten in the past,
They don’t tend to stay,
They don’t tend to last,
The future ahead can be very bright,
So much of course I may lose my sight,
But only of course if I stare too long,
I need to take action,
I can’t go about it wrong,
The goal is to focus on the task at hand,
My attitude will not turn bad,
I will take a stand…
