Offensive Odors - That Kid

entry for offensive odor contest - everyone knew one of these kids. enjoy

There is always that one kid in all middle schools.
Who is unaware of personal hygiene rules.
Showing up to class needing no introduction
Because of their aroma causing nasal obstruction.

The other children convulsing in their seats.
Days they did shower were considered special treats.
For not many people enjoy smelling,
What resembles the odor of a pig’s dwelling.

Combining the stench of rotten fruit
With moldy cheese and a baby’s toot.
Are they oblivious to smell that chokes like a tight scarf?
Or do they enjoy making others barf?

If you ever cross one of these subjects
Who reek of gross failed science projects.
Ask them kindly to take regular showers,
So we can look at healthy, not wilted flowers

I See Beyond - - Contest Poem

I See Beyond…

I see beyond the damp, moldy roof shingling
I pay no mind to the stray cats on the stoop mingling
For I know that behind that chipped painted door
Is a not just cape cod cottage but much more

A young girl in a dress runs through the kitchen tearing her stocking
Mother yells from the window on the back patio
She holds her husbands hand as they watch the seagulls flocking
Their daughter joins to wish them farewell as they go

I see beyond the weathered exterior and picture what could be
A home filled with love and children, my wife and me
I say, “I’ll take it!” to the real estate agent who stands in awe
Apparently he and others were not able to see beyond

Suicidal Nightmare of the Depressed Husband

(just a poem, don't be worried about my well-being :p)

Beautiful architecture form the walls of home
Wide-open spaces for my loyal dogs to roam
Sapphire blues and ruby reds line the borders of my garden
Freshly polished Corvette in the driveway is truly a vision

My children sleep through the night until morning
Safe, tucked in, dreaming of bright futures to come
Faithful slumbering wife who won’t leave without warning
A man should be happy with all this, but I am numb

Depression trumps my emotions like a savage tyrant
As though happiness and joy have become absent
Not even the wonders of an autumn walk through the forest
Inspires me to try to live until next August

I’m a selfish man when it comes to life and death
It’s my life to live and my life to take
My finger gently lowers onto the trigger as I take a breath
Nausea and dizziness take over as I suddenly awake

My wife asks if I’m ok as the sweat drips down my face
Utterly speechless, she takes my hand in embrace
I explain the nightmare and how it’s not so much an illusion
We agree to seek help to avoid the once inevitable conclusion

Seconds

Time spent with you
only seemed to last for a second,
but those moments are savored
and remembered forever.
Your words and actions play back
in my head like past memories,
as I recall on the times I spent by your side.
Some say it takes time to fully understand
the depths and deeps of a relationship.
But have they been through this?
Have they struggled to find the words to say,
a poem escaped from their lips.
Nothing more than a pathetic attempt
to explain how only these few seconds were enough.
To have this shell-shocked boy questioning himself.
She did not do all that much in that past second,
but it was enough to have his world brightened.
Suddenly…
She was gone
He was alone
Love at first sight lost forever,
Until the next girl came along, just for a second

Children of the Fence

Fickle minded in nature, we are children of the fence
Would rather ignore your advice than listen to your two cents
We do not make the necessary decisions of life
Sit back and watch others deal with the strife
It’s disgusting really, there’s nothing to boast
But I have no response as I sit on my post
