Black Eyed Susan Poem
I thought I could wow them with poems from earth
Poems of joy and humor, poems extolling it’s worth
So I laid out poems from Michael, Gail, and me
From Andrea, David, Gwen, and Ilene
From PD, Harry, Mandy, and Chris
From Jack, Craig, Cyndi, and Liz…
For I was sure once they read our beautiful works
They would embrace us and love our humanly quirks!
So last night I taped them all over my skin
Knowing they’d find them if they took me again…
When I woke up, they were gone and I had a reply:
“We enjoyed reading those poems last night,
And thanks for the names of the earthlings too -
We have many more experiments to do!”

Black Eyed Susan Poem
I used to clearly see your face
But now you’re gone; as if erased,
Misplaced, or hid, or left behind,
Or lost somewhere inside my mind
I want you back; my heart is twined -
A Celtic knot I can’t unwind
That aches your loss; I feel consigned
To memory’s unfair design
How can I love you, yet be blind?
You’re still a blank, still undefined
I keep on searching, frantic paced
I need to fill this empty space…

Black Eyed Susan Poem
PD, Please don’t be offended by my gift
An Incubus told me you needed it
For nights when you’re alone and bored:
A gigantic, over-sized, unicorn horn!

Sagging
Wagging
Shagging
Ragging
Need blue pill for sagging, wagging dick
Leads to thrills for shagging, ragging chick

Black Eyed Susan Poem
Please please PLEASE
Say you recognize ME -
My face, my name;
Please say you know me today.
Say you know me, so we can converse,
A normal chat, words unrehearsed.
No more who are you’s, or who am I’s,
No more confusion when I stop by
I miss you mom and you’d miss me too,
If just once, you only knew…

Black Eyed Susan Poem
I’ve covered the mirrors in our house
With colored sheets, while choking on grief
Black, blue, and green, to my bewildered spouse
Who has wondered what has become of me
And why suddenly I’ve begun mourning
He thinks that I’m a reflection of him
So he doesn’t notice the wounds within
The marring of my spirit’s complexion
Permanent, from his reoccurring sins
That have shaped me into his perfection
My face is clear so you would never guess
That person staring back isn’t me
Mirrors can’t show underlying distress
Only the lie he wants others to see
Not the despair slowly growing, steeping
Don’t look bewildered at my draping sheets
If you look, the nude is there, underneath
Reflecting the lie that it has become
Prolonged exposure to fisting complete
Now mourning the death of someone it loved

Black Eyed Susan Poem
When words don't help
Knit and purl the agony out
Your hands will learn how

Black Eyed Susan Poem
Little Coffee House
It’s the coffee counter line-up
A conveyor belt of people
Ready for their little treat
A little piece of comfort
From their favorite beanery
I strum as I watch them
My guitar like an old friend
They should say hello to -
But they never do
Little Coffee House
My band’s playing for you
But what do you do
You just want want want your cups
Your little coffee mugs
So move up to the front
Funky-spiked hair dude
Jokes with the worker
He leans on the counter
(I think that he likes her)
But people are waiting
And he’s hesitating
So all the shoe tappers
Start to harass him -
Hurry up and pick one fast
Little Coffee House
We’re playing for you
But what do you do
You just need need need your cups
Your little coffee mugs
And that little coffee buzz
I look around the room
There’s a girl in a red shirt
Looking out of the window
She sips on a latte -
I think she’s an artist
She lays out her sketchbook
But she doesn’t start to draw
She turns to face the wall –
What are we doing wrong?
We don’t have to be inspiration
But how ‘bout entertainment?
Are we a distraction?
I can’t help but asking
Are we an invasion
Of the air?
Little Coffee House
We’re playing for you
But what do you do
You just sip sip sip your cups
Your little coffee mugs
Not listening to us
There’s a man on a laptop
There’s a girl reading Sherlock
There’s a guy on a cell phone
A boy eating Jell-O
I want them to look up
If they’d look up they’d see us
Are we so bad we should shut up?
Because I feel like we just suck -
I feel like we’re not even here
We’re jamming
To inattentive ears
Oh Little Coffee House
I feel I’m at a loss
We’re playing here for you
But what do you do
Your busy coffee mouths
Keep sippin’ till it’s out
If only you’d listen
You’d hear what you’re missin’
We’re not
Just another gig
Someday, we’ll make it BIG
Sip sip sippin’ cups
Those little coffee mugs
Sip ‘em till they’re out
Little Coffee House

Black Eyed Susan Poem
You used to be my strength, my rock
I looked to you for comforting thoughts
Till you thinned like paper
Your caring tapered
And like scissors you cut me off
