Baby Girl, Sue

So suddenly it came,
without a warning,
breaking her heart in two.

She stayed up late
and would contemplate
what she was to do.

Would she deal with it?
Or kill the problem?
She didn’t have a clue.

She wasn’t ready,
so much more to live,
so much she never knew.

Nothing was easy,
and time didn’t help,
it seemed impossible to get through.

She was burned with stares,
and exhausted from lectures,
within the nine months she grew.

Then one day,
she found her reason
when she met her baby girl, Sue.

The Night Owl

So slowly do the hours pass in this cimmerian shade,
as if only it were my ineluctable fate.
Eternity it seems, yet eternity I’ll wait,
I yearn to see the light of day.

Eyes wide, neck rigid, perched upon the branch of this tree,
I patiently await for the moment to break free.
To hear the lovely melodies of the morning birds sing,
invite the heat into the pits of my outstretched wings,
and behold the suns warmth in my butterscotch eyes.
Oh! It seems forever I have longed to glide across the golden skies.

But what if I were to be caught being a stray?
From this branch I’ve never wandered away.
And to think of what the others will say!
So shall I fly or shall I stay?

Yes, to my dismay, I suppose I’ll stay.

Complete

Before,

the embraces revived what had perished,

the words induced the serenity,

the hands soothed what was rigid,

the smile captivated the attraction,

and the kisses kindled the flame.

	Then,

the battles roused what had mellowed,

the curses inflamed what was simmered,

the fists lashed at the shielded,

	the scowl inflicted the angst,

and the growls ignited the blaze.

		Now,

		the war is won

the confidence exudes what was hidden

the arms embrace those who always loved

the chin raises to encounter the world

and the voice is asserted with assurance.

			She’s complete.
