Aislinn Monahan Poem
The pennies from my pocket
Fall
And turn into the ash in
The cracks along some sidewalk
I have never walked on
In daylight I reflect upon the disappearance
And count on cut out fingers
All the days I spent looking for the copper bits
But
Sometimes when the moon in the mind
Reflects some of the darkness
I only shed light
On the depression of their absence
The reason I am looking
For these few and far pieces
Is to pay the price
Of another man’s ruined glory
To pay the hobo
Leaning on the corner streetlight
He was once the politician
Hoping for change

Aislinn Monahan Poem
I'm ripping out my lungs
So breathing isn't labored
Not for my sake
But for the gentleman
Laced with bowties
I'm hunched over the bus seat
Spilling blood
Back into the cup
Reminding the window
That my hand still exists
The world doesn't care
For my diaphram leaping
Or my feet sketched skidding
All they wanted
Was my skeletal mass
Grounded for cocaine
That is sniffed in opera boxes
This word
Will never change,
So why should I?
I dot care if I stain plush seats from golden gates
I'm finished playing fair
They took him
Growing inside of me
It's only prin pricks
Along their toe nails

Aislinn Monahan Poem
Match the heritage
to the disease,
And
We'll all see a translucent tree
Out of surprising bottles
It’s all the mistakes,
That seem to illuminate the leaves
Streaming mindlessly with lines
That embodies the stereotype
If I line up
All the left over Christmas lights
Along the branches
Of jagged glass,
Will my blood shed serenity
And knowledge to the problem?
Each night I paint the roots
Another color,
So I won’t repeat,
The artistry of concern

Aislinn Monahan Poem
I think I have found love
It's owner I will name a thousand times
And file it under an unmarked cabinet
That was previously filled but now flows empty except for you
In tht singular files lists all my hearts joys and simplicities
What have I done to speak to such beauty
It is you that makes my heart skip inside my chest
Quietly to the world
Loudly to you
Deep in my mind
You rest on that line of steel
Inside that cabinet
Holding me together

Aislinn Monahan Poem
I miss the way his fingers spin
Like the daisy colored spool
Off the kitchen table
He sings in a gruffed tone
Below my ears
Injecting that beauty
Into my neck
He's not some brooded lost soul
If anything he's the sun
Shining through the bleached curtains
Of a film noir hotel
Shedding some secret
No one told me
I love you
And not the mirror you dress in
Its those moments without
That I remember.

Aislinn Monahan Poem
I wanted this to be different.
To rewrite the pain and have it dry in an invisible ink.
I saw him, on the side of the road with no hand, or love.
His small tail crushed, against lazy thoughts.
I tried to stop the traffic of self and cars.
Brought him to someone who could help.
It wasn't enough.
I couldn't save him.
And now I sit.
In an empty room thinking.
If i could have changed what happened, did something different.
Could I feel this heartbeat still.
Could I wish he hadn't gotten out of their yard.
Could I wish he hadn't left, and that I had never met him.

Aislinn Monahan Poem
She is beautiful
She has this smile
Stuck on her face
I've never seen that smile
I can't explain it
Unless i'm yelling agaisnt the world
I love her
More than atoms
The ones sticking
to the roof of my mouth
That dipps into her mouth
When she lets me breath into her
She's dark and brooded
Yet sings of sunlight and syrup
frayed and magled blonde hair
Swaying against
Her wide eyed-blue eyed brow
She let me kiss her eyes once
I never recovered fully
I'm still bleeding insilin
She is beautiful
And I can die
knowing i loved her once.

Aislinn Monahan Poem
Orange only
I peel you
from the falling form
off my teeth
because I want to smell
that sweet sickening
shallow breath
Please my tongue
and fall into the pit
of my stomach
my dear
for I love the way
you spin and speak
bubbling over until
I am spewing that beauty
that you find so simple
My
orange only
you are the substance of light
that grows the sweetest fruit

Aislinn Monahan Poem
Love is a name
I talked to myself
To understand
Why you'd stick around
For my falsetto
Today I match
And say
Something I write
On every napkin note
Every day
My lips and breath are yours
I just need your love
Always

Aislinn Monahan Poem
I am envious of the moon
and her changing state
Never simple
always in love with her mood
and constantly beginning
Sometimes
when the stars remain silent
I stare into her eyes
and wish she would live with me
