Remnants

Watching you struggle,
 With the demons you hold,
Ignoring the life’s lessons,
 And all you’ve been told.
Shuffled and dank,
You appear out of sorts,
 Unsteadily perched,
 Rocking; back and forth.
Eyes of distain glaring about,
Moans of displeasure,
As if there was doubt.
Selfish, and subtle,
Ingesting such filth,
Silent surrender,
Of body; and will.
Fingernails blackened,
Skin ashen grey,
Unable to determine,
Night time or day.
No hope for the future,
No desire to soar,
Depleted ambition,
Nothing is more.
So sad how it started,
All in good fun,
Unshaven and dirty,
Remnants of,
My son.

The Hunt

Perched upon a shaded stone,
The lad patiently waits.
A solemn breeze, a swampy stench,
Dead set he concentrates.

Pupils scan both near and far,
For movement or a sound.
His sweaty palm fiercely grips,
The weapon dangling down.

Dragonflies provoke his calm,
Sweat droplets fall like tears.
Mosquitoes feed upon his brow,
The lad persists sincere.

A blackbird squawks, while crickets sing,
Beavers gnaw a log.
Caterpillars deeply sleep,
Clouds billow along.

Two peering eyes lock on the lad,
While inching toward the stone,
Tiny puffs of dry clay dirt,
Proof they're not alone.

A thunderous croak jolts the lad,
He pivots to the left.
Falls to the ground with saucer eyes,
A heavy heaving chest.

Fumbling to try and stand,
He's cold-cocked 'bout the chin.
Brought to his knees he can't believe,
A KILLER AMPHIBIAN!!!

Only Twenty Minutes...

Twenty minutes spent with her,
Is twenty not with me,
I’m sure upon the surface,
Some might call it jealousy.
However I would beg to say,
Your time is yours to spend,
Just realize I am not a fool,
Twenty minutes is more than “friends”.
Talk of divorce, distant stares,
A wall within the bed,
Sneaking here, avoiding there,
Look where twenty minutes led.
You’ve had your time to bond with her,
Mystic it must be,
After several twenty minutes,
You’re ready to be free.
At first my heart was aching,
My esteem was all but crushed,
Then I came to realize,
It didn’t matter much.
What really am I loosing?
That’s not already gone,
When making love, I must admit,
Twenty minutes, isn’t very long.

The Other Side...

A crazy woman lurks the halls,
She shuffles to and fro.
Distant eyes, wiry hair.
Her plight, sadly I know.

She ghosts from room to room,
Her touch is cold as ice.
Distracted and detached,
I’ve met this woman twice.

One day when things seemed perfect,
She appeared before my eyes.
Whispering indecencies,
Spreading vicious lies.

A sadly diluted character,
Embraced the vein filled hand.
She and I would visit,
A dark and lonely land.

Family watched in silence,
Tears would fall like rain.
A crossroad we encountered,
Welcome to…Insane

A cocktail of pills, keep her at bay.
Stability the key,
Embarrassed and ashamed,
The Bi-polar side of …me.

Do We Pray In Heaven?

No one before has answers,
The question still remains,
Passing on is something,
We all will do someday.

For when the journey's finished,
And you've touched the face of God,
Tranquility is promised,
Yet something seems quite odd.

A lifetime spent in wonder,
An end to grief and pain,
A daily interaction,
We'll never do again?

From above we watch our loved ones,
As they continue on,
Prayer is the connection,
To every soul that's gone.

We beg for his forgiveness,
His guidance and support,
His undying approval,
A place within His court.

The finality is unsettling,
What do we do from here?
If we pray in heaven,
Does someone really hear?

Fall

Autumn leaves dancing
Spinning and twirling around
All so inspiring
Enticing playful moments
With choreographed echoes.

Seeing You Later

The car was packed, the sun was low the end was drawing near,
A journey home, a brand-new start, alas here comes the tears.

I hugged you tight and whispered low “ I don’t want to say good-bye”.
You chuckled deep and hugged me back. You gave a dad’s reply.

You said just “See you later” that would get us through.
My husband and new family we drove off to life anew.

He was to be the man I would share how many years?
He would hold me tight that night I’d drowned in fear.

Three years they would pass us by with letters and some calls.
Then April Fools you passed away and now I pace the halls.

I wonder what I should have said, and if I should have stayed.
I wonder if you knew that day what could not be delayed.

Good-bye it seems so final, like the slamming of a door,
To make progression easier, for me you wanted more.

I scan the streets of people so many resemble you,
I listen to the wind, and surprise I hear you too.

I find comfort in your notion of seeing you again,
So passively I surrender to Only God Knows When.

Religiously Confused

Never could there ever be,
an odder concept to perceive.
Long ago and far away,
he lost his life to pave the way.
It was to be the utmost act,
selflessly upon his back.
He did no wrong, he sayw no bad,
yet he would die for those who had.
While all of us still yet to come,
would owe our lives to "God" someone

Come Out

Come out from the darkness into the light,
death dreary days will someday be bright.
You've made gross mistakes, you've done some things wrong,
while traveling a road that is lonely and long.

You've grown from a child, so precious and sweet,
into a man with expectations to meet.
You can't do it alone, life is meant to shared,
even those hurt can't help but to care.

Look deep in your heart the answers are clear,
your enemies can't be those you hold dear.
Come out from the darkness into the light,
relinquish all weapons, the end is in sight.

Mighty of men have encountered worse paths,
years will pass by before we can laugh.
But today we can learn from misfortune and grief,
tomorrow's a new day to embrace and believe.

I don't have the answers, I know not the way,
but my path is in shambles with you gone astray.
It's hard to imagine a more reckless approach,
than the drugs, or the booze desired by most.

God had a plan when he sent you to me,
a soul with a challenge "Make him Believe"
He will bring heartache, he will not follow suit,
he will have an enigma that clouds the truth.

Come out of the Darkness into the light,
please show the world you are alright.
