Jennifer Wiatrek Poem
The funniest people are the most sad,
They're the ones who are coping with a smile.
The ones who don’t argue, never stay mad,
the ones who, for laughs, go the extra mile.
The funniest people need to laugh most.
They hide their depression, bury it deep,
They're the ones who laugh louder, jest, and boast.
The funny people sadness likes to keep.
Funny people end up crying alone.
In the cover of dark they let out tears.
Share life with sadness running to the bone.
Funny people are swallowed by their fears.
I find the funny people in a crowd,
And I hope they know that I'll be around.

Jennifer Wiatrek Poem
I left the old me on the South Carolina sand.
The naive, sensitive, fragile girl stayed on that land.
I signed my life away for a greater good out there.
Sacrificed what I was to become someone better.
I left that place as someone unrecognizably new.
Stronger, braver, not someone easily subdued.
South Carolina kept all that I was before.
I clawed, and carved away until that wasn’t me anymore.
If I went there a piece of clay,
I was a slab of marble when I went away.
I’ll not forget South Carolina and what I left behind,
The battles won and lost are branded inside my mind.
South Carolina, South Carolina, I still feel the sun.
Though much time has passed and those days are done.
I still think of that summer and laugh, smile, and cry.
Sometimes it feels like no time has gone by.
But I left who I was back in South Carolina,
I gave that person up the day I arrived in South Carolina.

Jennifer Wiatrek Poem
I light the match
And watch the flame flicker.
The flame is bright,
A beautiful blue, orange and yellow.
I know that if I touch this flame
I’ll be burned. Perhaps scarred.
But as I stare at this dancing flame
All I can think of is the beauty.
So I reach out with my other hand,
Slowly, tentatively, purposefully.
But then I stop, look at the flame.
And I think about what I’m doing.
Then I drop the match.
I watch the flame, stare at it.
In the back of my mind hoping I don’t get burned.

Jennifer Wiatrek Poem
I wish I could see what you see.
I wish I was as strong as you seem to be.
You seem certain in all that you do,
I wish I could be that way too.

Jennifer Wiatrek Poem
Aren’t you just a sweet delight,
Never let you out of sight.
Fight for you with all my might.
See you, love you, hold you tight.

Jennifer Wiatrek Poem
Let me hold your hand, I’ll walk with you.
I may not know what you’ve been through,
But I can hold your hand and walk with you.
I can sit with you if you don’t want to stand.
I can listen, even if I don’t understand.
We can sit together, until you’re ready to stand.
I can be here for you, if you let me.
You can do what you need to do, safely.
I can be here for you; judgement free if you let me.
If you need a place to rest your head,
I have a pillow, a shoulder, you can use my bed.
You can rest here, you can lay down your head.
Whatever I can do during your time of need,
I will do it, you’ve got a friend here; guaranteed.
If I can, I will. Just let me know what you need.

Jennifer Wiatrek Poem
I love you even on the hardest days,
When the darkest of nights seem to stay.
I love you every second that I breathe,
With literally everything, my mind, body, soul, even my teeth.
I love you unconditionally free of restraints
I love all your pieces, even the ones that you hate.
I love you for what you’ve overcome
For things that would be scary for some.
I love the things that made you, you
The ones that make this love, ours, true.

Jennifer Wiatrek Poem
I heard it so much
I started to think it was true.
Repeated it to me so often,
That now it plays in my head.
You said it so many times
That it’s etched in my heart.
You believed it so much,
That now, I believe it too.
