Karen West Poem
The surf pounds and pounds against the shore
Never ceasing, onward rushing and rushing,
Engulfing the sand, eating it up,
swallowing it down, spitting it out again
A tree stands proudly, towering, its limbs swaying in the sea breeze
Half in sun, half in shade
Sunset is approaching
--the shadows grow and grow
Soon will come the night--
A willow weeps in darkness.

Karen West Poem
The rush of waves upon the quiet
sand - transforming a
peaceful scene into a raging,
storming tempest
Gusts of wind hurl waves and sand
about - wildly,
The water swells, abates, swells again
Waves dash against the shore madly-
Heaving, sighing as they go
After the storm's crescendo comes the
calm - the quiet, peaceful, sleepy
calm
The lovers rest

Karen West Poem
I've lost my knife.
I don't know where.
I wish that I could find it.
I've lost my mind.
I don't know how.
I don't know where to find it.
I've lost my heart.
I do know where.
But how to get it back?
I've lost my love.
I don't know why.
And furthermore, I don't want it.

Karen West Poem
Night is the time when I miss you most.
At night is when to have you near
means so much --
Not caressing me or even touching me--
But to
Know that all I need do to find
you--to feel your warmth--
Is to reach out--and you are there.
That I miss!
Goodnight, you in the next room.

Karen West Poem
Loneliness is a four-letter word.
Loneliness takes minutes to acquire
years to forget
and a lifetime to lose
Some people are never without it.
Loneliness is bad company
