Speechless Romance

I see her from afar
I don't need a name
I can daydream all the same

It's not easy
For romance comes to those who try
And it feels like I'll live or die

And when it finally happens
I'm not hopeless
I'm speechless

You Never Knew Me

We are but friends
and nothing more
But I am lost in you
Sadly, you don't know me

And I know nothing of you
I have but a blissful dream
of what could be
and nothing more

And as time speeds on
nothing changes
but I love you more
and still you don't know me.

all I have now is a memory
and nothing has changed
you never knew me
and I am alone

Unspoken Echoes of Unrequited Love

She Walks in, Beauty in motion, Bright as sunlight,
Melting in that smile, Drowning in those eyes
Falling, I might be, Thinking of no other, Waiting for the moment
Longing that this is real, Despair that this is not, Doubting the possibility
Waiting for a moment, Hoping this is true

Pulse quickens, Sweat beading, Heart pounding
Stomach in knots, it hurts, Hands shaking, Voice stumbles
The words tumble from my dry mouth
She turns red, covers her face
And then she leaves, nothing added

Oh, what did I do?
What did I say?
I apologise, she responds
It's not clear and I can't see
Well, what's said can't be unsaid

Was I brave or a fool
I know a truth
She tried to spare my feelings
Which made it worse.
It could have been me, but not this time.

Regret

I wish you had known me
Had got to see the world through my eyes
And I, through yours
I wish you had listened to my music
and really known my soul
And I could have listed to yours

I wish we had shared books
and experiences
We could have shared love and pain
and happiness and laughter
we could have been one

But we never got that close
Our souls never met
and our minds didn't connect
You chose to go one way
I had no choice but to go another

we never really met at all.

I yearn for you

How I long to learn the poetry of your heart
to hear the words that make you
How I yearn to add my own to yours
so our songs become one
A joyous union of happiness and love

How I long to learn the depths of your mind
to understand who you are
How I yearn to be a part of you
so our thoughts are like one
A meeting of minds and ideas

How I long to know your strength
to know how to keep you moving
How I yearn to walk with you
so we can journey together
A life spent travelling forward as one

How I long to grow old with you
to know all that you are
How I yearn to be by your side forever
Our lives as one
A life spent as one together forever.

I Convinced Myself

You entered my life without consent
I didn't ask for you and I didn't need you
But I found I was thinking of you
Before I knew it, I convinced myself
I wanted you.

But this is all one-sided
My single dream of you
I saw more than was there
and before long I convinced myself
I needed you.

The dream grew to an epic fantasy
but I never considered your part in it
I saw only from my vantage point
and so in time, I convinced myself
you wanted me.

The daydream grew
In this dream, I had courage and a place
your life would be complete with me
so I convinced myself
to invite you in.

The fantasy crashed around me
I have no place in your life, and you, none in mine
You neither wanted nor needed me
I now have had to command myself
to move on and forget you.

Looking Back

I am in awe of her beauty,
a laugh that lights a room,
a presence that can't be ignored.
I am caught and can't escape.

She is out of my reach, a space between us.
I want to talk and get close
but no, there is no chance.
I can't get near

She is more than me, I am nothing to her.
I can't get close, a canyon grows
I retreat from the edge
until I burst and shout at how I am hooked

But I am an unthinking fool,
and now the chasm is too big to cross.
She's on one side looking away.
I on the other looking back.

Some Songs

I love a good love song,
they all get it right, they all get it wrong
What it means to you, what means to me
they're never the same, you see

Some make you cringe
and others whinge,
And another think, if only,
I wasn't so lonely.

Over time a song might change you,
but not heard for a while, also sounds new
What once was yours and theirs
is now just nothing, as it compares

Desert Sunset

I sit in the warm sand and watch as the sun slides down the sky.
From bright to dark, stark to muted, bleached, coloured, black. The dark shadows marched across the beautiful landscape to destinations unknown.

The fierce glaring sun touches and finally slips below the horizon, and the world changes gear. For in the inky pools, there is movement; The furtive rustling of small creatures all around.

The burning daylight heat dissipates while the air smells hot. The stars twinkle above, the cooling night breeze sweeps passed with a calming whisper, and a scorpion scuttles noiselessly by my outstretched leg.

The night-time world is alive.

Now, the sacred land is owned by the new crew until the morning sun signals the slow reversal.

The day my heart broke

My heart didn't break,
On the day when I told her it was hers.

My heart didn't break,
When I knew she didn't think of me like that.

It broke on the day when I realised,
She doesn't think of me at all.
