Looking Back

I am in awe of her beauty,
a laugh that lights a room,
a presence that can't be ignored.
I am caught and can't escape.

She is out of my reach, a space between us.
I want to talk and get close
but no, there is no chance.
I can't get near

She is more than me, I am nothing to her.
I can't get close, a canyon grows
I retreat from the edge
until I burst and shout at how I am hooked

But I am an unthinking fool,
and now the chasm is too big to cross.
She's on one side looking away.
I on the other looking back.

Dear Mark, the longing for a love out of reach is truly palpable in the pain of your expressive passionate verse. A very moving piece. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan
