I Convinced Myself
You entered my life without consent
I didn't ask for you and I didn't need you
But I found I was thinking of you
Before I knew it, I convinced myself
I wanted you.
But this is all one-sided
My single dream of you
I saw more than was there
and before long I convinced myself
I needed you.
The dream grew to an epic fantasy
but I never considered your part in it
I saw only from my vantage point
and so in time, I convinced myself
you wanted me.
The daydream grew
In this dream, I had courage and a place
your life would be complete with me
so I convinced myself
to invite you in.
The fantasy crashed around me
I have no place in your life, and you, none in mine
You neither wanted nor needed me
I now have had to command myself
to move on and forget you.
