Fifteen Is

Fifteen is being lost in this maze called life
Not knowing where to go or how to get there
Unable to see around the corner 
But knowing somebody is waiting to scare us

Fifteen is trying to find ourselves in a world full of darkness
Grasping at the light that we cannot see but so desperately need
Trying to figure out who we are 
When there are so many voices telling us what we should be
 
Fifteen is stumbling blindly through the storm of life
Unable to see through the fog swirling around us
Not knowing if our next step will be safe
Or if we will stumble upon the corpse of the past

Fifteen is not knowing if the surrounding water is trying to drown or cleanse us
Unable to hear the truth through the cacophony of voices that surround us
Not knowing what voices to trust and listen to
Trying not to let our fear of what comes next consume us

Fifteen is just the beginning of our scary lives
Everything begins to matter now
The decisions we make today can affect us for the rest of our lives
One wrong step and our whole world could crumble

Fifteen is knowing that we have to fall before we can fly 
For if we don’t jump or if we don’t fly surely we won’t survive
But there’s a wolf at the bottom waiting for us to drop
We are all birds too scared to take flight
