Sueann Nickerson Poem
Shifting the kitchen curtain over
to the right, separating thin window from wall.
There's a resistance to witness,
dark light of troubled pane as
an imbalance offsets my true
substance and demeanor.
Drawing lips forward to taste
any wrinkles of the sun, I step away.
Easing a desperate mind with a patchwork
of memories can be so simple.
Desecrating any form of entrapment by
slipping into a mode of neutrality.
Heavily bagging the coated burdens
like donated fabric of lessons learned.
Evidence taints a stranger's hand
as I am flawless and free of wretched option.
My confessions will for a scapegoat.
Entombed are the desires I quench,
stark-naked inside the walls and suspended.
Yet, I am threatened by introduction and division.
Failing to follow the strategies that assert me,
Quarreling with myself as the final curtain folds.
