A Dying Friend

Do you sometimes feel sorry for the moon?
As it swirls around the starry sky
With an incandescent glow so dim yet fierce
It captivates even the soulless eyes.
Why should you feel sorry, you may ask?
It has everything - fame, love and a friend
The beautiful blue planet called the earth
Which it encircles till the inevitable end.
The earth and the moon go way back
Their stories have travelled through lips and lore
Their bond is stronger than stone and steel
Their love is louder than the thunder that roars.
The moon lights the night sky with a soft glitter
And shows us the path to follow in the dark
Pulls the waves closer to the shore at night
Remains loyal to the earth, no matter how far.
You may think the moon has everything
But you would not be right if you think so
You do not feel the pain that it feels
You do not know the things that it knows.
It knows that the earth shall die soon
Because it's cruel people have ruined it so
The moon knows it's friend's time has come
So it waits patiently for the day it has to let go.
You may think the moon has everything
Everything it could need to last it till the end
But the truth is, the moon doesn't have anything at all
Except the sadness it feels for its dying friend.
The insurmountable grief that troubles it's heart
That immeasurable weight that it feels on its chest
It knows that it's friend has been destroyed by us
It also knows we'll come for it next.

Better

I feel better, which isn't much, but it's still something; right?
