December

slow, sweltering, solemn days
the winter turns the skies cloud-grey at four o'clock now

recently, i've found myself missing how it was.
they say nostalgia is the heart's way of reminding you of something you once loved.
but why did no one ever tell me?
that you only yearn for something after it has succumbed.

nevertheless, i, and all must realise
it is only when we decide to surrender control do we tame the mind
and it is only when we breathe each breathe whole
do we see the beauty of time

so i kiss the back of my hands
and thank all they do for me
and decide to name nostalgia a blessing among all the others i love and receive

today i trust that just 'being' is simply enough

for letting go does not leave me empty handed
but instead fills my soul with everything i need.
