Soccer

An activity that is beautiful to the eye
Fun to watch and be part of
A unifying pillar across continents
Individuals relentlessly chase an inflated object
In a bid to own possession
And make a score
An act charming the heart
For teamwork becomes the spirit

The tussle has witnessed disheartening actions
Accompanied by life-threatening tackles
Is it out of malice and erroneous decision?
A stern warning is given
A repetition would lead to being awarded a yellow card
The worst penalty being a red which sends one off

Victors relish in the moment
And they celebrate wildly
They brag about their dominance
Losers loathe the verse of defeat
But have received learning
Despite the loss hurting deep within
For the pain is so severe
Like small children, they break down in tears

A breading ground for division
Hatred is spewed among those blinded by anger
They become inconsolable
Laying a way for racism as they embrace the use of demeaning words
Where they liken their fellow countrymen to animals
Is it a means to find solace for a loss?

A platform for endless debates
Giving birth to supremacy battles across the globe
Seeking to compare and contrast the best
Coupled with heated arguments
Like drunkards, they speak out their minds
Hiding behind the name, post-match analysis

Fingers are pointed
Curses are continuously thrown
Blames are leveled
To individuals who made costly mistake
The beauty of the messy period being an end
Where players happily shake hands
Embracing each other freely
The spirit for coexistence lives on
Like undying flame kept alive by additional logs!

An Elegy To the Late Professor Enos Mwakha:

Led by an example
Single-handedly laid down the foundation
A pillar that reflected the true yearning of the course
Selflessness anchored the strength to do good
Without seeking anything in return
Equality built the foundation to listen
Keenly listening to raised concerns
And wisely gave the rightful way to follow
Grievances and hatred were expelled
Misinformation destroyed the bridge built
A leeway to providing appropriately
Assistance was accomplished with passion
Effectively supporting the disadvantaged willingly
Troublemakers had a hard time
The reckless actions destroyed the platform
Since they widened the gap for disunity
Which effortlessly were fought to be conquered
And encourage togetherness
Through breaking the boundaries and surpass the limits
Hard work and resilience gave hope
A belief strongly encouraging hope
The spirits lives on
Despite being fought by barriers
Continue resting in peace!

The World Is In Danger

The supremacy battles among states is a timebomb
Likely to swallow us all
Like a grave which continually takes our loved once
For competition has become the order of the day
Caution has been thrown to the wind
And there is intensified production globally

Industries are set up daily
Aiming to maximize production
But failing to consider their environmental impacts
Nuclear energy has taken a center stage
Because no state wants to be left behind
And strongly desires ownership in part

War is being waged carelessly
Destroying life and property
Did we ever learn about conflict resolution?
For individuality is all that matters
Carbon emission is on the rise
Sadly, clean form of energy is ignored
Despite being cheap and affordable

Our ignorance would throw us into the fire
The effects of climate change are evident
Vegetation cover is thinning away
Like a sickly person growing thinner each day
The snow cover is silently diminishing
While the rainfall patterns have become unpredictable
Area covered by the deserts are widening
Like a path between enemies

They purport to sign chatters
Providing funds to mitigate the adverse effects
And even make public declarations
All these being the face of irony
For they are stabbing us behind our backs
Hypocrisy hides their character
Their greed makes the world unsafe for us all!

War

You cherish violence
Is it your way to settle scores?
You hate peace
Wreaking havoc is all you think about
Though your secrets are held close to your heart
An aspect of individuality promoting secrecy
With every act you inflict unbearable pain
Like a fire,
You consume anything on your path
To sate your insatiable hunger
Many hapless people you kill off
Property you destroy
Anyone standing on your path,
You mercilessly crush
Like a river,
You make blood to flow
You are an agent of pollution
The atmosphere is filled with the smell of death
You are heartless
For you love to besiege the weak
And turn their compound into a battlefield
Under your watch,
Many have been made homeless
Others have become orphans
Some are either widow
Or widowers
You are unperturbed
But your anger has to be sate
Is your heart made of rock?
You appear unremorseful
But proud of your actions
We have to speak
Since you are likely to knock on our doors
And infringe on our spaces
Squeezing every breath from our lungs
Our hate for you is so immense
Your strength has made you ignorant
An act likely to lead to your downfall!

Charity

Your intentions are meant for goodwill
Your heart is as white as snow
Seeking to identify and bail out
For selflessness is your part
And opportunism is your sworn enemy
Like rain droplets
You come in plenty
Secrecy is not your portion
Laying bare your desires is your game
Change is your other name
Since, impacting and changing lives is your goal
A purposeful road you careful lay
Indestructible by any weight
But tramples on any form of obstruction
Seeking to limit your potential
Sieving your targets from the masses
Like chaff being separated from the grain by the wind
Out of the sea of humanity
You avail those befitting your support
A ray of hope to the disadvantaged
You restore their will for survival
Reviving in them the spirit to fight on
Throwing in the towel is discouraged
Are you heavenly sent?
You give everything freely
Demanding nothing in return
You are our love
For you have created a space for yourself in our heart
Igniting a flame deep within our souls
Since we can hear shouts of your name
A beauty we wish to have known early
Forever, your memories will be kept alive
For your deeds are outstanding!

Racism

You are loathed
Since you were cursed
While you destroy the gains,
we have made
Taking us back to stone age
A verse that witnessed unprecedented slavery
An act which placed a yoke of hardship on our generation
And viewed human beings as a commodity
You are a cancer
Since you are resistant to treatment
And seek to wage bad blood amongst us
We share the same number of senses
The component in our veins is similar
We can accomplish tasks effectively
Where do you get your motivations?
Catcalls are made to some individuals
Others are described in demeaning words
As they continuously get compared to animals
Many are alienated
The only difference we bear is the pigmentation
You are a murderer
Sadly, you have killed many spirits
And dampened many people
Majority break down in tears
For they know it is not their decision
To be born in that manner
The strong have turned a deaf ear to your antics
And capitalize on your mockery to prove you wrong
The weak have given up
You are a monster
Seeking to devour us
Slaying you is the only way
Safeguarding our space is our strength
For you pollute and poison minds
While encouraging extremism
A dangerous beast than you
Likely to swallow us all
We have no other way
But fighting you is inevitable!
