Prey

I am running and reaching, my fingers outstretched
To grasp at her thundering form
Which ducks and weaves between whispering trees
Moving like a warm summer storm

She is a river, carving her path through the rock
Her steps were firm and secure
So sure, and unceasing, the cold breeze increasing
The chase I couldn’t endure

She was the tide of the wide, deep ocean
Which comes each day just the same
Pulling and pushing the sand as it plays
With a power, no one can tame

She is the time that I tried to grasp
What I wanted to stop for a day
But she was a faster, hounding form
And now I’m trapped as her prey
