The Backwards Rainbow

This room is sterile, I think sadly
What a sad place to die, I think sadly
There, my brother, my beloved--
rest in peace, I think sadly
Violet, indigo, blue, he whispers
Green, yellow, orange, he smiles
And with a final sigh he says red
And with a final sigh he says red
You poor child.
You poor, suffering child.
How I wish I could take your pain!
And the backwards rainbow echoes still--
Violet, indigo, blue--a tear, then--
Green, yellow, orange--a smile, then--
Red, I whisper, red.
There, my brother, my beloved--
My best friend!
Rest in peace, your memory is survived
