Looking On

I'm laying in bed and it's daylight now.
Thanksgiving, a week away.
Always hopeful slumber will eventually fade to dreams,
I finally give up and get up. I'm tired but wide awake.

The window is slightly cracked open.
I feel the humidity in the air.
I deeply inhale the moisture smelling of decay.
The cold makes me cough.

A morning caffeine induced mania has my attention.
I'm wired, tightly held in it's seduction but loving the effect.
Later I will crash in the depths of my medical marijuana edibles.
Happy to be and happy to share.

Distracted from my thoughts, I sense no pain.
I go about my day, sitting at my keyboard typing senseless lines.
It's poetry.
I remind myself it's art, even if it makes no sense.

Music plays softly in the background.
I receive inspiration from the singers who came before me.
I love music.
I love the lyrics.

So listen when I tell you I find solace in the words I write.
They are filled with spirit, love and life.
Dare to read them if you will, maybe you will find some solace as well.
Perhaps they will calm you and keep you still, set you free.

Come walk with me through a forest of timber.
Let’s watch chipmunks gather acorns and chatter at us.
We’ll just sit and be quiet under the dark canopy.
When the time is right we’ll move along.

See how easy it is?
Look to your imagination.
Read some more words and see where they take you.
There are no borders.

We Remember Our Shame

Our innocence was taken.
Our youth was was tortured.
Our identity was buried.
Our self worth forgotten.
But we remember our shame.

Our memory is branded with the scars.
Our self esteem is crushed to smithereens.
We lack self confidence and hide in the darkness.
When the light gleams we shy away.
But we remember our shame.

We didn’t know life could be so cruel and cold.
An uphill battle against the world and wind.
No one to confide in, no one to talk to.
No one to wipe away the tears.
But we remember our shame.

Believe

Winter’s eve is on the horizon and marked on our calendars. Are you ready?

We’ll wake warm beneath our covers and watch the full moon set with a twilight sunrise.

We’ll celebrate and drink strong coffee laced with nighttime dew of the full moon.

It tastes just like dark chocolate, as dark as the dark side of the moon. We toast to the fullness of our mother moon.

As ghost ships of yesteryear sail by the window of my eye I find myself surrendering to the aroma of the coffee and chocolate.

I recede back into my coffee to believe there is no such flavor as intoxicating as mocha java.

Then painted sails of the ancient mariner galleons catch my eye. I am once again daydreaming about floating on an incoming tide past the full moon of Atlantis.

If you believe, I invite you to foster the eternal imagination within your own conscience and join me. I’m about to leave to step outside myself, come along for the ride.

Who Will Feed the Birds

Little budgie who comes ‘round to eat,
The seeds in our feeder ever so sweet.

I see you in spring, summer and fall,
You come ‘round in winter you never stall.

This season’s no different so come eat your fill,
‘Til we meet again in the early morning chill.

Those bully bluejays on their way to the feeder do make,
Screaming at the world keeping me wide awake.

I watch you from my window my coffee in hand,
I admire your tenacity when you make a stand.

I am blessed by your presence, beauty and sacred song.
I’m glad you come ‘round all year long.

Enchantment of the Wildwood

I lose myself in nature to be consoled by the characters that stop by to wish me well. I search for my special mushrooms that make me happier than happy.
A little mouse tells me there are more in the wildwood just over the hill.
He runs along ahead of me to show me the way.

I follow on along with my basket. There is a damp mycelium covered log decaying under an old elm. I’m in heaven. My little friend chews on a mushroom and runs off on his way to tell his friends. I am joined by more forest friends as we collect our mushrooms and share in the enchantment.

Where will your words take you?
Do you ever imagine make believe?
Will you join me in my mythical world?
Come take my arm as we walk the path of euphoria and escape into the land of lyrics and lavender.

Despondent As Darkness

I wish I could plant happiness in your heart and heal you of your despondency. I'd place affirmations of loving peace and contentment in your mind. I'd say things like this and that hoping it's not for naught. What would you say if all your sadness disappeared overnight?

You'd no longer have nightmares. Just think, peaceful slumber with compassion wandering throughout your dreams. All you need to do is reach out and grab onto the love then hold on tight. Its purpose being to protect and preserve your soul for the future. Look inside, too, I know it’s there!

I'd also be sure to include some sweet grass and mock orange blossoms to fragrance the center of your hope with confidence. So be sure to touch them and feel their softness and take a deep reassuring breath when you do. It will set you free.

I'll exchange the darkness with love and life to comfort the place in your memory where your way was lost. I'll take your hand in mine and read you psalms 'til you fall asleep. There I'd leave you in God's loving affection until morning light where you're never to broken to begin again.

Look Inside the Light

My words are alive intended to speak to you.

They live with their own authenticity.

Words on a page that stir in you a great debate.

Reach inside yourself to see what lies within.

Do you have the ability to feel?

What is it you seek in the cobwebs of your soul?

Are you comfortable with who you find?

Will this person provide, protect and nurture you?

Does your spirit crave a change?

Come take my hand and leave behind the old behaviors.

Seek out that which makes you calm.

Breathe in a connection that's there without seeing.

Become one with the challenge and focus on the song in your soul.

Know that you're loved and cared for by someone who lingers in your heart.

Find the light within and without.

Sing a song of hope and honor for your angels.

Remind yourself that you are life worth living.
