The Non Conformist's Version

Some of us ,perhaps are not cut out for this perfect world,
Life tells its story as the moments unfold.
Here we are sharing this Space, this Age,
Like odd misfits, sharing this societal charade.

The lonesome lover, whose love has died,
The angry rebel who trains children to fight..
The child who grew up on the streets,
The girl who left home in shame for her deeds.

Countless lives, strange stories,
Empathy, sympathy,sadness, joy, anger, love.
Each tale has its own fragrance,
Its not just the beginning or the end,
Its a bit deeper than that, my friend.

Conformation to conventions bind our minds,
      'Freedom' is born inside.
Little control that we have over others' opinions,
      Free yourself, free the mind-
The world transforms, the vision changes,
Hope blossoms, Love makes its way inside,
      Life grows, meanings surface,
Peace reigns... and the courage returns.

The Kaliedoscope

No great structures, no crusades over mountains,
No wounds felled or tales of being unbeaten.
All around me is a lively choir of colours and images
Merging beautifully, all the visages and the mirages.

In this fragmented world, I search for the kaliedoscope,
To string together a bit of beauty, truth, love and hope.
     More smiles, less tears...
     More silence, less fears.

I did not visit all the temples,
Could not always pray properly.
At times I had to say no to friends,
But then I had the best intentions.

Heaven or hell, I know not, nor do I care,
A life is a life, mine or theirs.
There are differences, but they are the surface,
Deep inside, its less of you and I, more of us.

Glittering droplets of the early morning dew,
The sun is the same, reflected every day anew.
The drops vanish, life goes on
In borrowed wisdom, the poet sings his life's song.

One True Sentence

One sentence, written as true as you know it,
An understanding conveyed as sincerely as you feel it...
The sand flows through my fingers,
And the water droplet sticks on to my skin,
Fleeting thoughts and impressions seep in slowly...
My writing awakens me from within.
I am not what I used to be before this word was written,
I create, I search, I struggle to live, constantly changing,
Time and 'I' lose its meaning, my words remain and return.

Patterns of Life

Life fulfills itself through you,
All the while, seemingly drowning you and saving too.

You believe you are the architect of your destiny,
As you rise through your own tears and sweat,
Life smiles, lends its touch, reshapes your path.

Like the wind under the wings,
flowering and blooming in your name...

It flows and you flow along,
With you and within you, it sings its songs

My Talent Search

Everybody has a talent the wise say,
I have seen it proved day after day.

The ways of the Universe are funny,
As easy to understand as a hangover after a single martini!

Just when you think you have learnt the lesson,
A new twist hits you right from oblivion.

My friend, he sings and strums the guitar,
I tried to give him company, ended up making him a star.

I handled the guitar, tried the rythm
All I managed to do was to confuse him.

He sang a bit, I croaked along,
The applause was more for my walking off, than for his song.

Nowadays I write my poems and have wise people read them,
They review it and laugh their heads off their brainstem!

I dare say my job is to spread a smile and a laugh,
The intention is all there, the 'talent' is the missing half.

I have become the inspiration for many...
I have bagged the award for upcoming poetic tyranny.

My talent is not for poetry, I have been told,
That might be true, but I have chosen to be bold.

The poetry should go on, so has the decision been...
Shall we settle for two slices of laughter with a drop of wisdom in between?

(My dear friends, thank you for all your comments and words of encouragement and i hope
this poem supports the fact that next to love, humo(u)r is the most potent and powerful
emotion worth pursuing. This is my tribute to you,my patient reader.)

Of Pestilence and Resilience

My wife woke me up last night and said that she had been bitten all over by something,
She said she was certain it had not been me...
Alarmed! I rolled off the bed and landed on my knee.
Our baby was sleeping soundly and he did give a tither,
Sleep was precious and mine was a lost treasure.

Switching on the lights, I ventured to check
My wife, armed with a torch went over every speck
Checking anything that moves, including my shadow...
She declared she was fed up with my strange bedfellows!
My wife, she is a fighter! and I went down once again, hook line and sinker.

Crawling carefully, we saw quite a few well fed guests,
Trust me, they had had a feast and were ready for a well earned rest.
"Bed bugs! in my house!!" bellowed my wife!
I knew someone was nearing the end of someone's life.
The blame was sure to come on me and and so I quit exchanging pleasantries.

The next day I surfed the net and posted the problem on a website...
And answered phone calls well into the night!
Carpet area, free services and yearly sprays to get rid of all pests..
The offers were tougher to negotiate than a reprieve from the God of Death.
All said and done, the deal was signed and the work began.

They sprayed all over and under and even in between the third and fourth dimensions
Einstein would have been impressed, maybe even written an equation!
I sit in front of the computer with a runny nose...
Keeping watch over the house even as the scourge of the bugs slowly go.
The house smells funny and for two days I will miss their company.

My wife and kids, I mean and not the bed bugs.. O Reader!!
You are as bad as my wife, who thinks I am a lazy bugger!
Little bed bugs can shake a household,
Or as in my case, put life on hold.
Nowadays I write poems for my friends who have turned cold.

Those pest control guys did a good job, I believe,
I can see insects falling from the walls, the cracks, and the crevices.
Sometimes Life is just simple and straight,
Bed bugs, cockroaches and even a few mosquitoes are a part of your fate.
What is amazing is that a bug's bite has been converted into the Net's byte!

I rest my case...
Accepting whatever I get with...grace.
