Where Poetry Lives

His poems live deep down in the wood
down in an olde hunting lodge
They are brown as the bears head that
hangs on the wall
brown as the dark leaves that fall
silently hiding the salt lick
from fawns who come in
the twilight to call
His poetry growls and grumbles and purrs
like a cougar alone on the rim
of the canyon above the olde
hunting grounds
where he writes all his lines
like a hymn
His poems stretch out on the furs
by the fire
and tell of the storms and the waves
that tested the strength of the words
that inspire
and sent many songs to their graves
for brave are the sagas
the odes that survive
the trek through the woods to the town
and as we go home we gather them up
scattered like leaves on the ground.
Brown, yellow, red ,a few of them green
His poems are places and things we have seen
but not from the view that the truth hunter gives
deep down in the woods ,where poetry lives

If You Are the Ocean...

If you are the ocean, then I am the mist
which kisses the morning the way children kissed
their mother at breakfast to start a new day
If you are the ocean, then anchors aweigh
We'll sail through the evening and on to the light
The daystar is dawning, we'll keep to the right
like Peter and Wendy to Neverlands' door
we'll sail on forever and touch every shore
If you are the ocean, come wash me away
to some misty morning and there we will play
on beaches you've loved all your lovely life long
If you are the ocean, then sing me a song
of sailors and treasures and I'll have to say
If you are the ocean, come wash me away...

Before I Die

cascading crystals fall......... like
rhinestones from the sky
      a shower of ,
    your endless love
    on me before I die.

Skin Deep

I love you just the way you are
(after they buff that awful scar)
and laser the tattoos over your heart
I'm sure we're destined never to part
Remember to tuck up that cute
double chin
and put those buttocks back where
they'd been
     Do ask about Lypo and
wax that moustache
and while you are at it get those teeth
that flash
A beautiful smile in no time they say
it Looks great and it seems such a small
price to pay
For love such as ours that
withstands any crisis
so while you are there just look
into the prices
     of permanent lashes and
green contacts honey
     and buy some new clothes
for it's well worth the money
a wig or a dye job will top
off the look
and get those new nails that
we saw in that book
     I love you for you
but it's so plain to see
There's really a much better you
you can be
     So call me next year
after all transformations
(I'm sure you'll exceed all of
my expectations)
     Just fax me a photo
I'll show it with pride
But remember I love you
for the you that's inside!

I Am Florida

I am Florida ,paradise
look around and realise
dreams come true
beneath my skies
   azure seas ,a life serene
egrets wade beside the stream

peace surrounds you like a dream
       sailfish and the dolphins leap
toward the moon out of the deep
     wishing stars will always keep

   promises made on the fly
        shooting stars in summer skies
kiss your lips and whisper sighs
come to me where seashells sing
           tales of abalone wings
           bright coquinas,magic things

               Seminoles and Everglades
               Salofcatchee,healing blade
                  Chitamico in the shade
                      I am paradise.
Don't speak to me of summer storms
I rule winter,keep you warm
and you love me for my charm
for I am Paradise.

Life and Death Across the Sky

Life and death across the sky
some must live and some
must die
   Broken wings and slivers
showing
   Shredded hopes the
wind is blowing
   Feathers flying, hear the
call
   Of the Night Hawk
through it all
   Terror blotting out
the stars
   Talons leaving
battle scars
   Life and death across the
sky some will live and some will die.

Last Stages of Love

You're in the last stages
of lost wages,
of empty pages,
of spent rages,

You're in the termination
of inspiration
of imitation,
of expiration,

You're in the culmination
of emulation,
of exploitation,
of domination

of me.

A Friend To the Wind Even Now

On a leaf I would write you a letter
and mail it into the wind
that's the chance I had in finding ,
my once in a lifetime friend.

But it landed right there beside you,
tangled in threads of your shawl,
with only your heartstrings to guide you,
you found me where dying dreams fall.

The Gypsy wind whispers a reason,
the where and the why and the how,
but I will remember that season........
I'm a friend to the wind
even now.

The Oracle In Love

She laced her eyes
closed with the ties
    of lover's binding vows

     she's flying blind
to prick your mind
    with thoughts
   she's writing now.

She's gained conclusions
      from her flight,
and virtues from your smile,

     she felt your face
  in blinding grace,
     she glorifies your style.

    The double helix
spirals on
to form us as it may,

    we choose another one
to be
a place for us to stay.

The atmosphere
    there crackles,
with lightning
    on her tongue,

    She spins around,
in sightless sound,
     and shatters..........
          deaf and dumb.
