Gratitude To the One Who Made Me

From You have come the wonderful things
That brought me joy and spread my wings
I soar today above the stabs and stings
That unfriendly bias so often brings.

The lightning that came was looking for me;
You deflected it far and away from me.
The snowstorm stayed miles from my town.
The deluge was gone: I did not drown.

For me the trees are green, with élan
Flowers bloom, their colors transform
Nature to a friendly warmth and charm
A rhapsody in hearts they do perform.

For me the sun, the moon, the stars
That bring in bounties, relieve my pain.
I’m no longer alone, I cry not in vain
Hope and faith are, in me, just born again.

In these radiant hands, let me bury my face,
Kiss them with my eyes and seek the grace,
Shed tears and wash away forever the trace
Of an unholy past, its pain and its fiery haze.

Great Thoughts

Great thoughts are the great means we have
To rise from the lows and miseries of life
And soar high to the levels never reached
By those who never had to suffer the pain
The setback, unmerited, that fell to our lot:
It broke our back but reached not our heart.

Thoughts are the liberators at our command
To break open the gates of all ancient fads
That have held us captive in terror for years.
Thoughts set us free, spread wide our wings
We soar high in air, conquer oceans and land,
And we march on with friends, hand in hand.
Thoughts banish the doubts and inhibitions
And all that is clumsy and not so gleaming
In sights and surroundings that have broken
The spirits of men strong in will and power.
Now that we’ve no fears that shackle our feet,
We’ve the chance to fight life’s battles again.

Great thoughts may break the self imposed ban
That has denied us the courage to dare and win
The rewards and citations that can yet be ours
If we learn to ignore all tantrums and work on
And create timeless art that all humanity loves:
And we’ll sing to hope, happiness and élan.
Great thoughts give us the voice and the rhythm
To sing out in joy and elan to the green mountains
To the waves of oceans and the clouds parading by
To the colorful birds and butterflies whose tantrums
Are a serenade with flowers and foliage of our earth;
We’re no longer afraid of tyrants, ghosts or phantoms.
Great thoughts spread the carpet of grass to roll on.

Reunion

I came to you on enfeebled feet
Heavy of heart downcast in eyes.
And, in a flash, you lifted me
Into your arms and high in the air:

The joy, the euphoria of those who dare.
In a flash the earth and cares are gone
We soar high, the clouds waft us on.
With you by my side, a new lease of life

In my boyish hands long, long ago
I had held a squirming dove this way.
Those were years, so sure of life
Unready for shocks, unmindful of pain

I braved the world, its stress and strife
No friend in sight, my struggle in vain.
I felt your presence, the comfort it was
In your sad eyes the solace I sought

I was so fragile, I would bear no loss.
I am back in stride euphoric in thought.
I hold high my head, my heart feels younger
We have hopes to build, hearts to conquer.

As Though In a Dream

Long years before I could afford it at all,
The setting I dreamed was of a large room,
Windows open to the majesty of mountains,
And the cool, fresh breeze from miles around.

A cushioned chair lulls you, not just to sleep
But be awake and enjoy the sunswept scenery.
The sweet music surrounds you and raises you
And your mood to be happy on top of the world.

Yester day, in a Concert Hall, I enjoyed for real,
Sweet and lilting songs from a charming woman
Whose magic voice had a magnificence of its own
Of rendering great and glorious verses to perfection.

The smiling lips, the constant bows and majesty
Given free but shared not with the listeners anew.
The lyrics of pain, suffering and unrequited love
Were depriving listeners of their joy of being alive.

And in a dramatic move, she sang of her land
And what it told her, “My daughter, be the guard
“Of the honor of your land and your devoted mom,
And your own courage and the safety of your home.”

Her voice broke. She looked around, took her bag
And she just jumped down the stage and fled home,
Hiding her tears and running mad as though in rage,
She put the rude and unfeeling audience to shame.

Awake To a World of Joy

I look at a mountain’s crown of ice
When birds sing and flowers smile.
In nature peace and wisdom found
Around us conflict and hate abound
It is time for nations to hold hands
And welcome to a world of santy
Awake to a day of glory and joy,
Forget problems, they’ll be gone
This day, this earth is blessed to be
A haven of happiness, hope reborn
In Love and smiles and gleaming eyes,
Hearts open in peace and harmony.
Trust is restored We march in hope
With our heads held high and free,
From high achievement to victory.
Enjoy the moment, celebrate the years
We’ll be great, our lives an ecstasy.

Bereft of Friendship

My friends are among the stars
Clearest of crystals, each of them a pearl,
Like drop of dew on the lotus leaf in sunshine:
You came into my life, filled it with joys unique
And just as suddenly left me and went away.
Abandoned me to face the crises of life alone

Unaided by the wisecracks, the pranks , the mischief,
The unprintable titles you gave to our adversaries!
I look for you in the stars, perhaps you are there
I am not sure. I ask you why, why did you make me
Feel so special and helped me rise above self pity
And entertain dreams when we were all just a bunch
Of spoiled brats who couldn’t make it to the heights
In an atmosphere unfriendly and hostile to all.

Why, why did you have to go away and drop out
Of the rat race and leave me struggling with angst
And fighting misfortune. With you, I felt so secure.
None would tear down the sand castles we built
Nor remind us we were nuts. You gave us the vision
And the opposition always marched past with respect.

Like the vainglorious king who was made to wear
The ‘precious royal robe’ that none but he could see.
But the Truthful children found out it was a fraud
To shame the tyrant who was a terror to his subjects
But an easy victim to the crafty guys who preyed
On his craving for fame and made him appear nude
To his subjects and humbled him as an imbecile.

A joke today says humanityis in three big groups
The cheats, the vainglorious and the donothings.
Is it true and if so the world moves on the idlers,
Cracks jokes at them and says they are unfortunate!
We made life worth living. And we lived like real kings
Fought to preserve our piece of earth, our self esteem.

I should be grateful to have lived so long
But I feel the pain of separation: the longing
For the past that is, without mercy, gone.
Maybe you’re lucky, you left and got the best seats.
I may linger some more and try some more and keep
Wishing you were here with me and assure me the end is not yet,

That before the day is gone a golden chariot come
And bear me to empyrean heights never seen before;
I pray for you that is all I do for the help You gave me.
Enjoy the peace in the best of heavens,
You’re the real Stars of my life,
I’ll never be far or away from you.
I shall always love you and honor you,
Friendship is for ever, life immaterial.

The Best of Lands, the Best of People

This shouldn’t have happened to you,
Our beloved America!

We've loved you always and honored you,
Your values the best, your laws the just.
Yours the friendliest people on earth.
Your beauty for real, your peace unrivalled,
And yet this happened, my love, this grief
The shame that every humane nation shares.

Only the noblest, bravest like you could bear
The tragic pain with unruffled calm and dignity,
The courage from God, the resolve from the heart:
With determination you declared, "Never Again!"

We're with you, America, this will not be allowed
To happen again, here or anywhere else on earth.
We will be with you and bring back the joys
This noble land had enjoyed and conveyed to all.

We are a God-fearing nation,
God is Our LORD AND OUR SAVIOR,
He will not let us down.
In this glorious land
Peace and security will forever reign
And Justice True and Equal, prevail again.
We love you Our Beloved America,
You will forever be lovely,
Forever be great!

My Friends Are Among the Stars

Clearest of crystals, each of them a pearl,
Like drops of dew on the lotus leaf in sunshine:
You came into my life, filled it with joys unique
And just as suddenly left me and went away.
Abandoned me to face the crises of life alone
Unaided by the wisecracks, the day’s mischief,
The unprintable titles you gave to adversaries!
I look for you in the stars, perhaps you are there
I ask you why, why did you make me
Feel so special and helped me rise above self pity
And indulge dreams when we were all a bunch
Of spoiled brats who couldn’t reach the heights
In an atmosphere unfriendly and hostile to all.
Why, why did you have to go away and drop out
The rat race and leave me struggling with angst?

And fighting misfortune. With you, I felt so secure.
None would tear down the sand castles we built
Nor remind us we were nuts. You gave us the vision
And the opposition marched past like the king who wore
The precious royal robe that none but the truthful could see;
But, to his peril, a pair of naughty kids were not deceived.
They shouted , “Our King is without his clothes today!”
And the multitude confirmed, “His Majesty is naked!”
The chant went round and the monarch ran for cover.
Thus too most often our fancies held our heads high .
We linked our arms and formed a circle of brave guys
Fighting unseen hordes, our own self doubts and rants
That impeded our advance yet made life worth living.
We lived like kings defending our patch, our self esteem.
I never thought I’d outlive them; the pain is hard to bear,
The separation from long loved friends is hard to bear’
I long for the past that is all gone and quietly I tell them.
Maybe you’re lucky, you left early and got the best seats.

I’m fated to linger some more and wait for the Call.
I still wish You were here and tell me I’m not alone!”
That before the day is gone a golden chariot will arrive
And bear me aloft to the heights we so vividly dreamed.
I pray for you; that is all I can do for the hopes and support
You gave me. Relax and enjoy your peace in heaven,
You’re the real stars of my life, I’ll never be far from you.
I shall always love you and honor you, my true friends.

The Most Fragile Objects On Earth

The Most Fragile on Earth are we,
The creative brains, forever enslaved
By the jealous mistress, the Muse.
We’re the folk Fortune never embraced.

Emotions wide open, tears on the ready,
A fetish to embrace the senseless pain
Of all humanity. We end up most often
With angina, the sweet angst that kills.

Are we mad, are we magnificent,
Neither we nor our readers know.
We flaunt not our work, its beauty
Keeps us safe and forever on course.

From one setback to another,
We sail past disaster and honor
Our peers who defied misfortune
Their poems are of enduring glory.

Theirs were the heroic lives
Of unmitigated suffering:
Long years of want, unmerited
Persecution, insults and taunt.

We honor them, the poets of our past,
Their sacrifices indeed were not in vain.
We’ve learnt from them and their work
The undying beauty of enduring pain.

Dad

I wish I could hold and love your hands
And kiss them with my tear-filled eyes.
For me you’ve always been everything
Parent, teacher, breadearner and guide:
You gave me and my siblings the best
Of care and generous love and support.
Your gracious regard helps us be greater
Than we’d ever have been in our lives:
Richer, happier, assured and dynamic
In a future in which you’d ever be great.
With mom, you held us close to your hearts
Till the time came and adversity arrived
And I had to go abroad. He refused to let me go.
I showed him my tattered shoes and shirt
And told him how proud we had been
As long as he was earning and supported
Us in schools and colleges and paid all fees.
Now the times had changed and we needed
Big money to build careers worthwhile.
Both of us wept and he said, “Yes, you may go.”
But mother, so proud and sure of her children
She was in hospital but I was sure she’d be fine
And accept my decision, she was a realist.
Unto parents worldwide, my respectful salute.
They endure pain and suffering yet sacrifice
The joy of parenthood to see us through
Like the One Above who feels our pain
And helps us to rise and conquer misfortune
And attain the success and glory we sought.
