The Break

They sat so low and beneath the troubled sky.
With a mind in gray, amongst the southern clouds.
There was no light or loves to be found.
Only a shadowed silence that covered their haze.
And a persistent phase that sickened their gaze.

They shifted their eyes toward the white blank page.
Their small simple book laid waiting in their hands.
It was deprived and senseless, a hollow reflection.
For neither of them would the words rise to grace.
Only the sky and clouds, to instill their disgrace.

Yet in the soulless solitude came a sudden break.
The rain began to pour and touched the shaded page.
It touched them too, falling into their black hair.
Without a care for thoughts or patterned sentiments.
Weathered and present, tapping at the tops of tenements.

They rose their eyes to meet the given change.
Used their mind to listen and their sickness the same.
Then embraced the coolness that stroked their face.
And in the tender caresses, they found traces of light.
Remembered and realized, they then began to write.

Light

Battered Blaine down in the rain.
And kept still in the winter’s chill.
Sudden appetites and several sour fights.
His moods distorted by the pain.
Seasons came and swirled the same.
Inside his brain, a sickly change.
At the will, of the world ‘s exchange.

Slept in sap and cloaked in shadow.
Amongst the sorry sights that drained him.
Deep in thought he stayed, inside a numbing claim.
Repeating his name, as the rain turned to snow.
Restless and weighted, he fell into cravings.
Worthless and hopeless, empty and shame.
Silently, he shouldered all the blame.

Irritable from inability, he lied alone.
Lied to those he loved, lied of his state.
And lied in the embrace of nature’s disgrace.
Until a tone rang from his phone.
A message to remind him of himself.
Which broke the haze of frozen plight.
And brought him back into the light.

He soon rested near a common man’s fire.
An electric heater, with a lamp above him.
Nestled in a blanket with his phone in hand.
He took his medicine and began to aspire.
To soothe his moods and mend his wrongs.
He would not give into his disorder’s might.
Instead, he would remember his light.

The Strains of Skies

Merriment has bustled ever so brightly.
You are one who was taken so timely.
Lost inside the strains of skies.

Over above is where you are.
Vast and lonesome, so very far.
Eternally so, until we are one.

Forlorn Hope

I am one whom holds no life.
A picture of unending strife.
Take the drink, not the knife.
And think of better things.

They cannot see me in this way.
Cannot know the pain to stay.
All the words I cannot say.
So I will have to change.

I will be another me.
Someone who won’t have to flee.
From a sick reality.
Change and then play out the scene.

She will have a better fate.
Breathe the air, not suffocate.
She’ll sing while I medicate.
And be the better one for them.

So bring her to the silver screen.
Bask her out and in between.
Know her pure and see her clean.
As the truth hides and rots away.

After

They laughed within the quiet room.
Drenched and high on sweet perfume.
Content in the company of their solitude.
They broke the silence all too soon.
And to their guest, hummed a tune.

They did not fancy themselves royalty.
Nor beautiful or good company.
In sincerity, they offered their softest apologies.
To their faithful and treasured friend.
Remembered and loved until the end.

"Not bad for a pathetic junkie, don't you think?"
They asked and stole a sip from their drink.
Their eyes holding a tear like glisten.
"No, no it's all.. it-"
The incomplete thought ending in spit.

A cough and then, the same as before.
Their solitude and them, nothing more.
The tear dried up and they laughed again.
"Well, aren't I dumb?"
They smiled faintly and began to strum.

Before Creation

Lost, the love of two.
In the mind, nothing but true.
Was it in the shaking hand?
Gold engraved, his promise band.
Away, away, away.
Away, away, away.

Lost, the spirit whole.
In his eyes, a loving soul.
In my mind, a haunting fright.
In himself, a loss of light.
Away, away, away.
Away, away, away.
