Women In My Family

Women in my family
Indeed, are rustic-looking and homely
Wake up at four, of-course, with reluctance
Untie the cattle though with inner resistance
Wash each cow and buffalo so impeccably
Remove the dung as though very faithfully
Bake cow-dung-cakes (for fuel) artistically
See to the household drudgery altruistically
Six of them (as ours is a joint family) do not fail
Fight among them, for no reason, and even assail
Pick lice from each other's head, end-of-the-day
Forgetting all false enmities as though act of a play
Cooking, washing, child-rearing, tale-baring,
Sleep, cuddled together, tiredness overpowering...

Mother No More

"recently scenes of early life have stolen into my mind, like breezes blown ..."
                       Quote by _Samuel Taylor Coleridge (from his writings)

Mother no more! You're half-orphan! They said.
At just three, I did not know where she went.
With some secret-filled smile I went ahead.

Through grassy, bushy, thorny, paths so bent,
They carried her within coffin coal black...
At just three, I did not know where she went.

While walking through the same way our home back,
I did not know why I did not ask why
They carried her within coffin coal black...

When I first went to my first school nearby,
When my first teacher kissed my hand and cried
I did not know why I did not ask why

I did not cry; my dad's tears never dried.
A feeling, like rough cloudburst, within rushed...
When my first teacher kissed my hand and cried

With growing up when past feelings got hushed.
Mother no more! You're half-orphan! They said.
A feeling, like rough cloudburst, within rushed...
With some secret-filled smile I went ahead.

Consciousness Fulcrum

My works need not be successful
Just when consciousness-centered
Success can be spiritual
Mundane and ill-tempered
If the living Holy Spirit of the
Absolute in me abide
My thoughts, words and actions
Will, indeed, be love-linked
Linked will be my neighbor with me
Each creature of the universe I see
As part of the consciousness fulcrum
And cosmos would flow in free rhythm...

And the Breath Said

I had seen - her calm, cool, composed - like a soft soothing breeze,
Though she could turn tempest or tornado or weakly wheeze;
Like a formless cherub in an endless garden of love,
She covered the earth while racing on cloud-Morgan above…!

Lovely you are! I said to her, Love's living conqueror!
Aren't you, yet, noisy nomad, gypsy, or mere wanderer?
I am vagrant sure, she said, and a tireless traveler,
I have jailed you, yet, in my sachet, like a prisoner…!

It was when I moved much away from the maddening crowd,
And when pondered over her bewildering words aloud;
Enlightenment dawned in me like the wisdom of Buddha,
Many great truths got revealed slowly like Brahma Chakra...!

True as very truth is my brief existence in the breath,
Who on this earth exists, devoid of her, from birth to death?
She murmurs, whispers, commands, demands, like Divine Spirit,
She creates! Destroys! Takes to zeniths! Grants highest merit…!

Soft, serene like nectar secreting in a rose flower,
She sleeps in; grows glows like a flower on a green bower;
Consciously conscious! Unconsciously unconscious! Solace!
Plows through the interiors, like Yacht through water, flawless…!

Shifting my state of mind, working like a leaven within,
Sleep, wake - like my mother - in feasting and fasting she's in;
She is the beginning! End! Center! Whole! Totality!
She is the starting and ends of the whole humanity…!

What an engulfing like a fiery inferno and smoke,
What an empowering and overpowering soul-stroke!
What a change, like unique bloom! Great is the life-giving breath!
What Calm! Peace! Tranquility! Bliss! Awesomely saving meth…!

With her, no stress! No strain! No phobia! No mania!
Her free-blow within free from frightening insomnia;
Abandoned to her eternally evolving Spirit,
Body and soul reach zenith beyond the mundane limit…!

Growing high, I gladly come to the realization,
That I'm part of the classic universal cognition;
Wherein my inner unity freely fondly extends,
And to the external eternal harmony, it tends...!

Knowingly? Unknowingly? Willingly? Unwillingly?
Breath has adopted me - calmly, cutely, and cautiously!
Has made me a flute, lute, melodious rhythmic consort,
I play on! I am played on! Till I reach restful retreat…!!!

I Will Wait For You

When you vowed your love, like a fairy, forever,
And fluttered about, like, possessed by new heaven,
I rolled my loneliness like a quilt in cover.
And got fermented by you like flour by leaven...

Your smile was as though the constellation twinkling,
For your love, I thought, I will take many a birth,
Your gestures went beyond all poetic jingling;
To make you immortal I'd kill the very death...

Why darling, soon, your bejeweled image got changed?
Where had your smile-beams found their hidden hiding place?
Your milky mind like an ocean of poison churned!
Slowly, forever, gloom shadowed your lovely face!

Does the sea, yet, stop the wavered wave coming home?
I'll wait for you, though you love, like a swift, long roam.

National Hypocrisy

O! Mahatma Gandhi!
You taught us non-violence
But we slaughter easily
Our own sisters and brothers

We create an institution
To promote your ideals
Yet we subject to ordeal
The destitute of our nation

Bride-burning and bribery
Casteism and untouchability
We puff in snobbery
Losing our accountability

O! Mahatma! Do not weep and curse
This beloved nation of ours
When the books of your messages
Are used only for binding packages

Poem On Poetry

Word-painting, they say; or painting with words,
In charm, it's charmer than most charming birds;
Feeling, for many, is its first foundation,
Expression, in words, brings affirmation;
Sentiment and muse must fondly marry,
Verses should flow-grand rhymes and rhythms carry...!

Does my work, yet, picture of life portray?
Do all colors intertwine, like sun-ray?
Do joys evade the scene when pains flourish?
Does bliss its jubilant psyche nourish?
Do feelings of fear, anger and surprise,
Find: it's impossible to compromise...?

What's the inner-flow of my florid words?
Are they merely beautiful flocks of birds?
Flimsy butterflies that flutter around?
Cats, rats, geese, cattle and horrible hound?
Do beasts of the woods and reptiles well-blend?
With their hitting and killing stories end...?

Do they paint pictures of human struggle?
Or stop just with some selected snuggle...!
The deaf, dumb, blind and the lame, who, in calm,
Add, to this futile life, tremendous charm...?
Young, and old who're, forever, deserted,
In my poems, with honor, inserted...?

Composing poetry, is not mere fun,
A divine mission, with this, is inter-spun;
Painting of actual facts should pave way,
Toward opening of a small headway;
Life without struggles is unfeasible,
Dissensions, yet, could be made peaceable...!

A Tender Moment From Childhood

A loving beautiful mother,
A responsibly caring father,
A bit moody, yet, affectionate sister,
And me the Very Important member;
All I can imagine is a beautiful tree,
Our home was just like a nest on it.
We were like sparrows carefree, happy,
Praying, playing, sharing, caring…
======
====
It was then the terrible tempest blew.
As though just to destroy our nest!
‘Cardiac arrest’, they said.
My mother died on the way to the hospital.
I was three and unaware of many events.
Except the wailing and weeping;
All I could remember most is -
That scene of my father holding me,
And showing my mother in the tomb,
Shedding streams of tears and telling me:
‘This is your mother. See here for the last time.
======
====
Ours is a nuclear family,
My father had now dual responsibility.
Uncles and aunts convinced him,
And almost haunted him to remarry…
“I will not”, he said, “I will live for my kids,
Joys or pains – I will share with them every bit.”
These words he kept up
Till the end of his death
His highest moment of contemplation,
Was just lying on my mother’s tomb…
Thus crying and wailing and weeping
When I was just eight he went away too.
======
====
Though I feel I have cried enough,
For my father’s death later;
And my tears are now amply dried,
Thinking of and thanking his love and care;
Though time has cured much of my wounds,
The scene of my paternal uncle,
Shedding streams of tears and telling me:
‘This is your father. See him for the last time.
======
====
Tears Brim-fill my eyes even today…
