The Lamb

The Sabbath was approaching
Passover was drawing nigh
A sacrifice must be made
A Lamb soon would die

The Lamb had been chosen
His blood soon would spill
He would hang on a cross
He would die on Calvary's Hill

The Lamb was beaten and spat upon
The Lamb they did mistreat
Nailed to a wooden cross
Spikes through His hands and feet

The crowd mocked and cursed Him
The Lamb hanged in despair
Only a few in the crowd
Even seemed to care

The precious Lamb gave His life
Salvation to provide
Blood and water freely flowed
As the soldier pierced His side

On the cross the Lamb suffered
A crown of thorns upon His head
There the Lamb hanged in shame
There His blood was shed

The Lamb's name was Jesus
God's only begotten Son
The world needed a sacrifice
Jesus was the One

It is finished, Jesus cried out in pain
The ground, His blood did stain
The sacrifice had now been made
The Lamb of God was slain

The Old Tractor

Sitting in the rundown shed, rejected she does feel
Her life once was perfect, every thing was ideal
His hands weathered and wrinkled, she missed his loving touch
Never did she imagine, she would miss him, oh so much

In the Spring he loved her, he saw her every day
Together in the sun, in the fields they would stay
Gently he would guide her, as on their way they'd go
Tilling up the fertile ground, row, by row, by row

In the Summer he loved her, they worked the planted ground
Under their loving care, vegetables did abound
To the shed he would guide her, at the setting of the sun
He always made her feel, proud of work she had done

In the Autumn he loved her, she watched the falling leaves
She helped him with the harvest, bringing in the sheaves
Corn stalks cut, gathered, and bound, in rows neatly shocked
The garden almost empty, she watched him as he walked

In the Winter he loved her, for the season she retired
The land was at rest, her services not required
She sits in the rundown shed, awaiting his return
She longs to see his face, for his touch she does yearn

Spring returned, he did not, her sadness knows no allay
No one came to tell her, death had taken him away
Her lights no longer illuminate, there's no one to turn them on
She sits there all by herself, wondering where he has gone

Rust has overtaken her, her frame is weak and frail
Slowly her body crumbles, her pain does prevail
Her motor no longer runs, her sadness does abound
Soon, like him she will rest, beneath the fallow ground

Empty Boots

Pairs of boots sit empty
They no longer wear a shine
For they now are covered
With blood, dirt, and grime

The owners always knew
They could lose their life in war
Still they stood tall and proud
When their oath they swore

Many have gone before them
And more will surely die
Leaving behind loved ones
Who question and wonder why

They knew the risks they could face
When called upon to serve
To go and fight a battle
Freedom to preserve

They wore the uniform proudly
To their country they were true
They gave their all without question
For the red, white, and blue

Family, friends, and countrymen
May never understand
Why so many had to spill their blood
On the grounds of foreign land

The only reason to be given
Is they answered duty's call
All of them gave some
Some of them gave all

I hope you will remember all who died
In the air, on land, and sea
They were brothers and sisters in arms
They were a family

A day of remembrance approaches
For those who died as they fought
Freedom was never free
With their blood it was bought

So as you watch Old Glory
Wave in the breeze
Remember those whose blood
Watered the tree of liberty

From the Ashes of Winter Comes the Beauty of Spring

From the ashes of winter
Comes the beauty of spring
After the cold
Warmth, sunshine does bring

Winters crumpled leaves are like ashes
Lying on the ground
Eventually new plant life appears
And springs greenery abounds

Life also changes
Just as the seasons do
Cycles of life
Mama and Daddy went through

They each had a long life
Full of moments good and bad
Sometimes they were happy
Sometimes they were sad

At different times in their life
They each accepted Christ's loving call
At death they would see Heaven
Because Jesus gave His all

As they accepted the gift of salvation
Their hearts joyfully soared
Knowing an eternity in Heaven
Would one day, be their reward

For Mama sickness was like winter
Cold and dark
But she knew on a joyful journey
She soon would embark

For Daddy sickness was like winter
Dark and cold
But he knew Heavenly wonders
He soon would behold

Much pain and suffering
They each endured
But by the blood of Jesus
Their souls were insured

As their lives each drew closer
And closer to an end
We all knew soon, life's last breath
They would expend

When to a life of sickness
They could no longer cling
I imagine they heard the flutter
Of sweet angel wings

They each knew death to them
Sickness would bring
But they did not fear the pain
Of death's lonely cold sting

For they each were saved
By God's wonderful grace
They would meet death
Wrapped in God's loving embrace

As the death angel
Took them, each gently away
They entered the land
Of bright eternal day

As they entered eternal happiness
Their souls began to sing
They were now in the presence
Of Jesus the Heavenly King

Their cycle of life
Was now complete
They were now a part
Of Heaven's elite

Death had taken them
To beautiful Heaven above
They would be forever ensconced
In God's pure love

Meeting Jesus in Heaven
Their hearts leapt
Angels led the way
As they each stepped

Through the scattered ashes of winter
That sickness did bring
Into the majestic beauty
Of Heaven's glorious eternal spring

A Place In Heaven God Wanted You To Fill

We prayed for you to be healed
If it was God's will
But there was a place in Heaven
He wanted you to fill

Over the years you fought sickness
At times you won
For you were touched
By God's Holy Son

Then the sickness returned
And filled your body with pain
For just a little longer with us
You would remain

God looked down
And saw you now tired and weak
The sickness that was with you
Left you unable to speak

God saw that
Your suffering continued to grow
He knew your heart
And knew you were ready to go

So God called your name
And as the angels took you to the other side
You were greeted by Jesus
Waiting there with arms open wide

Jesus carried you gently
To your beautiful new home
You are viewing your treasures
Which here have never been known

We will all miss you
In our hearts you will remain
But we would not bring you back
To this world filled with pain

We loved you then
We love you still
But there was a place in Heaven
God wanted you to fill

The Chasm

Into a chasm of darkness, I did fall
Depression wants control, it wants me in thrall
The thoughts in my head, my spirit they malign
My inner light doused, no longer does it shine
Some have taken their time, to say a quick prayer
Do they see me falling? Do they even care?
The chasm is deep and wide, no end is in sight
I cannot see, any relief for my plight
Happiness is gone, my heart is filled with woe
There is darkness above, and darkness below
Into a chasm of darkness, I did fall
Depression wants control, it wants me in thrall

The thoughts in my head, my spirit they malign
My inner light doused, no longer does it shine
I remember moments, when I had great cheer
They have been stolen, no longer they appear
Depression cast out its net, on me it fell
It wrapped me tightly, within it I now dwell
From this clinging dark net, I try to take leave
Each time I do, to me tighter it does cleave
Will this cruel net, ever loosen its tight grip
Or continually my spirit, will it whip?
Into a chasm of darkness, I did fall
Depression wants control, it wants me in thrall

Some have taken their time, to say a quick prayer
Do they see me falling? Do they even care?
Others may see me, with a glint in my eye
Do they hear me though, when silently I cry?
They think I am fine, because I force a smile
They never know, I am struggling all the while
Outwardly I may be able, to fake a gleam
While you will never know, inwardly I scream
Into a chasm of darkness, I did fall
Depression wants control, it wants me in thrall

The chasm is deep and wide, no end is in sight
I cannot see, any relief for my plight
I continue to fall, no hope do I see
This chasm of misery, I cannot flee
I used to be happy, a smile on my face
Then depression caught me, in its dark embrace
The voices in my head, my soul they do scrape
From their sharp harsh words, I can find no escape
The voices they shout their insults, night and day
Their only intention, happiness to slay
Into a chasm of darkness, I did fall
Depression wants control, it wants me in thrall

Happiness is gone, my heart is filled with woe
There is darkness above, and darkness below
I search for a light, all the brightness is gone
All I see is midnight, nowhere is there dawn
My eyes search for relief, here none can be found
In this dark chasm, depression has me bound
I often wonder, will my fall ever end?
Will my broken spirit, will it ever mend?
Into a chasm of darkness, I did fall
Depression wants control, it wants me in thrall

The Fallen One

The coffin is in the hearse, flag draped with pride
The fallen one is silent, as he takes his last ride

He is not the only one, many before have also gone
Giving their life in battle, never to face another dawn

Somewhere a mother mourns, for the son she will never again see
Somewhere a father's heart breaks, for the daughter who sat upon his knee

Somewhere a brother is angry, he lost a sister to war
Somewhere a sister cries silently, for the brother she adored

Somewhere a wife's tears fall like rain, her husband gave his all
Somewhere a husband grieves in pain, his wife answered duty's call

Somewhere a son weeps for a mother, his head bowed in prayer
She gave her life for her country, does anyone truly care?

Somewhere a daughter weeps for a father, she loved ever so true
She may never understand, what war asked her father to do

The hearse travels to the cemetery, a freshly dug grave does await
A place to hold the fallen one, the one who met their fate

Family and friends, sad and proud, gather around the grave
To give honor to the fallen one, who with valor their all they gave

In a moment of silence, people gaze upward to the skies
Pondering somber thoughts, as tears fill their eyes

War has taken another loved one, war has taken another friend
Many now wonder, wonder if it will ever end

The flag is folded carefully, in a loved ones hands it is placed
The pain of their loss is great, it will never be erased

The bugler stands ready, he has done this many times before
He longs for the day, when his tune is needed no more

Hearts break as the coffin, is lowered into the dirt
On this day for those left behind, nothing can ease their hurt

The pain of loss will linger, loved ones will feel it for many years
The sound of the gun salute, now echoes in their ears

The star spangled banner, flies high above the ground
As for the fallen one, Taps mournfully sounds

Her Son

He was warm as sunshine
She held him to her breast
He was her baby boy
She was perfectly blessed

He was her little boy
The joy of her heart
Her deep love for him
Never would depart

He was her teenage son
She had watched him grow
She hoped he understood
She truly loved him so

He grew into a man
In the Army he did serve
Giving them his all
He met each day with verve

Then came the dreaded day
The news broke her heart
How would she survive
She quickly fell apart

The day of his funeral
She prepared to say good-bye
Her heart in such turmoil
She could no longer cry

She looked in the casket
Where her son was placed
Another young life gone
By war it was erased

Serving his country
In battle he was slain
Through tears she wondered
Had he died in vain

As her heart was breaking
She touched his pallid cheek
No warmth did she feel
She let out a mournful shriek

Fighting for his country
He paid a heavy price
Now asleep in death
He's as cold as ice

Reflection From Within

Her light does not shine, it left her long ago
She is now empty, with insides cold as snow
She looks in the mirror, she recoils in fright
Her ghostly reflection, is a gloomy sight
She cannot believe, what she has now become
Joy it has left her, her insides now are numb
Who can see, the happy façade, that she wears
Is there anyone out there, who truly cares
She believed promises, that were made in vain
Each one that was broken, left her filled with pain
Her light does not shine, it left her long ago
She is now empty, with insides cold as snow

She looks in the mirror, she recoils in fright
Her ghostly reflection, is a gloomy sight
Once she had an inner glow, brilliant it shined
Now all that's left, are the voices in her mind
She hears their insults, from within she does wail
Looking at her face, that is now ghostly pale
Each insult has left, a mark upon her soul
A bruise upon her flesh, dark as blackest coal
Eyes no longer pretty, are now darkened orbs
All of her happiness, the darkness absorbs
Her light does not shine, it left her long ago
She is now empty, with insides cold as snow

She cannot believe, what she has now become
Joy it has left her, her insides now are numb
Happiness is gone, no longer does she thrive
Pale and broken, she no longer feels alive
Her façade is now fading, drifting away
Nothing is left, in the mirror she must stay
In this ornate frame, she hangs upon the wall
Stuck there forever, with the minds whip and maul
Each day appears upon her, a new dark welt
Her essence gone, emotions no longer felt
Her light does not shine, it left her long ago
She is now empty, with insides cold as snow

Beneath the Old Oak Tree

Spread a blanket on the ground
Pour a glass of tea
We will have a wonderful visit
Beneath the old oak tree

We will talk and share secrets
And enjoy the company
Friendships will blossom here
Beneath the old oak tree

Where happiness abounds
Sadness has to flee
In the comforting shade
Beneath the old oak tree

Even if for only moments
We can be carefree
Every time we visit
Beneath the old oak tree

The invitation is open
Will you please join me
I look forward to seeing you
Beneath the old oak tree
