Hopeless Hope

In that crack of time
Between dusk and night
The setting sun cast a orange hue
A beautiful glow across the ocean
But the fisherman saw a different sight
Engraved forever on his mind
Of the drowning man
Who reached out and grabbed
The shadow of a passing cloud.

Clarion Call

I was asleep when i first heard it
Loud and harsh in the dead of night

It rang out a message,a call
Come mothers,fathers,brother and all

So up in a daze I stumbled
Running out, shirt unbuttoned

Was this the beginning of the end?
If so who would they send?

The crowd grew,people whispered
What could have happened,they wondered

A clarion call we thought was a bit much
Yet did we gather outside the church

Silence fell with the Chief's voice
Slicing sharply through the noise

"The worst has happened
Draw your swords,have it sharpned

Indeed while at night we all slept
Our beloved City endured a theft

Gather all the young men of valour
For our village whore has lost her honor".

Phantom

Countless times i think I see,
No doubt whom i know it be
I call it my phantom in the dark
Riding rough yet leaves no mark

A slight change in the wind
As it whiffs through my mind
I eagerly reach for you at night
Again I grasp just the fading light

Come to me,my desire;so rare
Run your hands through my hair
I should claim you,but would not dare
So you remain my phantom in the dark.

Heartsong

When desire awakes..
The lingering ghost of years lost
Eyes hold each other up in prayer
Indeed,they pray in songs.

Wicked paths hands a'tracing
To a journey of no return
On bended knees and sheer reverence
Stripped of all else, but a smile

Reasoning is lost in this primal tune
Two melomaniacs lay down and dance
The melody is old as time
The beat is their heartsong!

Image

At last,the rain is gone!
All my chores done
Yet i pace in frustration
Thinking; "I ought to change my fashion"
I pull my hair back
I still look blank!
My pale face yet again i see.
Am i pretty?am i plain? will i ever be free?

When can i laugh at my fears again?
Or fall asleep without tears or pain
When can i take back all i gave you?
Seeing as you just make me blue
For in giving,i got lost
Oh! and at such a cost
Pray tell me when can i be ME
'Cos it is you in me,i always see.

Sour Grapes

Sour grapes have been washed
And set out to tease.
Sitting in the middle of the room
On a pedestal of glass.
Sour grapes look down
With an almost disdainful stare
At the Lords and Ladies hurrying by
Wondering if any would care.
The scurrying,the trifling
The signs of human persons.
Gave it courage to ask.
Care for some?"
Let sour grapes sit.
Adorned in the finest China.
For in tasting only can you tell.
The story sour grapes bear.

Truth Never Lies

IN A LITTLE WHILE
I WOULD UNCOVER THE LIE
THAT SURROUNDS THE TRUTH
AS I KNOW IT TO BE WITH YOU
YOUR LIPS WILL QUIVER,AS YOU STUTTER
DESPERATION IN EVERY WORD YOU UTTER
WANTING ME TO BELIEVE AGAIN
THE LIES THAT BRING TO YOU SUCH GAIN
THOSE PROMISES THAT HAVE COME TO NAUGHT
OF VOWS DEAR, TO HOLD;YOU DO NOT
I AM NODDING,YET PRODDING
HOPING YOU WILL STOP MOCKING
FOR I HAVE SEEN AGAIN AND AGAIN
THE WAY YOU LOOK AT JANE
I HAVE SEEN AND LOOKED AWAY
ALAS!SHE HAS COME TO STAY
SHE SAYS WE NEED TO TALK
SO TO THE SUN ROOM WE WALK
YEA,IN A LITTLE WHILE I WOULD KNOW FOR SURE
FOR BENEATH HER BLOUSE THE TRUTH SHOWS

War Lords

We left home full of hope and determination.
Able bodied men in answer to a call.
Knowing only what we believe.
Yet not for a minute did we stall.
We set out fighting for our nation
To defend the values on which we were raised
Freedom fighters seeking no praise
Believing we would soon erase
The oppressions our people face.

Now on our return chanting a victory song
For we were gone not too long
Our city is a shadow of the life it used to have.
Our wives and children are taken
Our farmlands lies forsaken.
Barrenness has grown
Where there was once plenty
Despair has made us old.!

Silence

I cannot recall how he came in.
A stranger no doubt he was;dwelling with us.
Who invited him in? Was it you or I?
Yet he made his way in, quietly persistent.
Until we got used to his fleeting presence.
Then gradually he took up more space.
He got bolder tearing down memories.
Wiping out traditions that existed before him.
I told you to let him go.
For I found his presence unbearable.
It was uncomfortable that he lingered ever close..
As if beckoning to be summoned even closer..
I remember the loudness and turmoil that raged in my head.
I remember the memories we started to forget,
As he stripped us bare, he stamped on his marks.
Now his baggage has increased.
And so has his power over us.
For he no longer sits waiting in a corner.
Nor does he hover around waiting to be summoned.
Now he glides around like a landlord.
He has moved his relatives in too.
Each one of them rapidly cloning
And colonizing a prior loved spot.
Now the SILENCE is tangible and is so craved.
The sounds of his presence have become familiar.
Even missed whenever he steps away!
Now my SILENCE has a name!
A name that quiets down the same storm he evokes.
Now there is an attachment so deep, almost familial .
His presence NOW surely feels like HOME .

Time

Tick Tock, with no plans to stop
Its only job,it does so well
Time has no friend, and so no foes
It has no cares and no fears
Time knows what it knows.
Blamed for somethings
Anticipated for others
Yet for none does it pause
Its passage changes a lot
Steals,mends or simply hides,
It is up to us to slow things down.
But time i know goes quickly by.
