Jack Avergun Poem
These Boys, Now Men **
They died with pride on a numbered
hillside for they were Marines.
These boys, now soldiers,
taught not meek hand-holders,
taught how to fight
growing up overnight,
these boys, now men.
In a pointless strife
giving up life
these boys, now men.
What is now, what was then,
Heroes, all of them.
** Written after viewing my first episode being inspired by Ken Burns PBS TV series on Vietnam

Jack Avergun Poem
TAPS *
TAPS so solemn and words free
Yet it openly speaks to me
It marks the end of days,
The end of life as well.
That word free tune is like a thief
Replacing joy, leaving grief.
Tearing eyes…exhausting sighs
No other 24 note musical strain
Can say so much and bring such pain.

Jack Avergun Poem
Til I See Your Face Again
When I have to leave you, my heart
pines.
How long will it be ‘til I see your face
again?
How long to hold you, close in my
arms?
How long to kiss you, to feel those
soft lips,
To touch you, to feel your warmth,
how long?
To run my fingers over your face,
gently,
To feel the features that you are,
tenderly,
To hear you sigh and breath so
deeply,
How will I manage to wait patiently?
How?
