The Beast

A gasp escapes from his startled lips
He runs but can’t escape the Beast’s eager jaws
This hazy dream world of the Beast seems never to withdraw
A shock comes upon him, the fear of a total eclipse
As he nearly surrenders to its hammering whips
He dares to keep going, away from the Beast’s lethal cause
The fear shows him his deeds and the monstrosity he once was
The Beast’s potent magic, ever closer, into his soul drips

He slips and he falls, too deep into the dark
Once and for all be succumbs to the Beast’s numbing poison
Final acceptance of the end leads him to his last journey, the last on which he will ever embark
His being is washed away, his fears, doubts, and hopes exploited
His last seconds of life are marked by a grim smile, that of a quickly dying spark
As he slips into eternal slumber, he knows that dark hungry beast cannot be avoided
