Superheroes

The first magical breath of life,
Such a tiny bundle of joy to behold.
Proud and ecstatic Mom and Dad,
Tears of joy from Oma, Grandma, and Papa.

Constant wonder with the growing years,
This child so sensitive and so caring.
Any loss of life bringing a deluge of tears,
Streaming profusely from those delicate blue eyes.

And then, meeting the love of his dreams,
A beautiful and thoughtful wife, and her dear family.
Soon, the first magical breath of life again,
Such a tiny bundle of joy to behold.

Proud and ecstatic Mom and Dad,
Tears of joy flowing from this loving family.
The happiest time of all.
Yet, a dark, menacing cloud looms everywhere.

Suddenly, a call to serve our great country;
So quickly thrust into the jaws of a senseless war,
Into the chaos of a vicious, lawless, and distant world,
This new father--so young, sensitive and unprepared.

Superheroes cannot be found in sports,
Or the movies, books, or politics.
They are men and women much like our son, Kevin,
Who will stand and fight-- spirit and soul,
With a heartfelt belief in the American dream.

In Loving Memory

As I lay back in the tall grass
An uncontrollable emotion tears deeply into my heart;
I attempt to understand, "Why?"
Why has God taken one so precious?

Just then, a soft pile of radiant autumn leaves
Forms a plush pillow, and my senses sharpen.
The warm sunshine and a soft gentle breeze
Lovingly touch all that we call life.

Birds in their melodious splendor,
Fly close , and deliver special messages.
Colorful flowers wave gallantly in the wind,
Each having a unique life of its own.

The sound of crystal clear waters
Carrying crisp and vibrant fallen leaves,
To a distant and Heavenly destination,
Bring fond memories of those we will love forever.

Suddenly, in the midst of floating clouds far above,
Images of those held so dear touch my heart.
And they appear in fond memories-both comforting and touching.
Only now can I begin to understand, "Why?"

All of these precious souls who we feel we have lost
Are lovingly watching over us from Heaven above,
Helping God create a Heaven on earth,
Enhancing and spreading beauty with everlasting love in their hearts.

God's Heavenly Gift

God's Heavenly gift arrived in June,
Song in our hearts, a joyful tune.
Little Kaleb, with all his splendor,
To each of us true love doth render.

Special moments- to watch him grow,
To see him smile- God's wish we know.
And happy in life, for all to enjoy,
His place on Earth, God's precious boy.

A loving family so thankful and proud,
Will sing our praises to Heaven aloud.
We have been given the gift of love;
Kaleb has come from the Lord above.

Now, Brother and Brother in hand will go,
Down the path of life, and they will know;
That so much love is sent their way,
To help along from day to day.

God's Heavenly gift arrived in June,
Song in our hearts, a joyful tune.
Little Kaleb, we sing with joy.
To the Lord above for our precious boy.

Mighty Johnny

There was no joy in Fenway
With Damon at the plate.
Our lead was 1-0;
The game was getting late.

The Yankee star could win the game,
Short hair upon his head.
The windup and the pitch came in,
"Strike one," the umpire said.

The fans were yelling gleefully,
"A traitor," players beamed.
Mighty Johnny dug in eagerly,
"Strike two," the umpire screamed.

The boos were now resounding,
Our "hero" taking aim.
The pitch was straight and true this time,
One swing would win the game.

There now is joy in Fenway,
It's time to cheer and shout.
The swing met only harmless air,
Mighty Johnny had struck out.

The Loss of a Sincere Friend

In this short and fleeting time on earth,
It is rare when the precious hearts of those we love,
Blend with ours in perfect harmony.
Rick's heart and soul were of this nature.

Reaching out lovingly to touch each of us,
His friendly and caring presence,
Struck us with awe and fascination,
And made loved ones feel good all through.

A strong man with so many talents,
He stood for all that is good.
Wanting to share his incredible attributes,
With his dear wife, Elsie, and his countless friends.

Meeting Rick, eternally lit up all our lives,
His magnificent smile brought comfort.
Forever caring not for himself,
But always for those around him.

I remember my last moment with Rick,
At a favorite coffee spot on Route 2.
As he gently tapped on my shoulder,
I turned and was greeted with his wondrous presence.

My day was now complete and so much brighter.
Rick had already paid for my coffee.
"Wow!" I thought to myself,
"What a remarkable human being!"

We talked for a long while.
The entire time, he never once focused on himself,
His care and concern was only for others.
This was Rick through and through.
