I want to write tonight
But my muse has taken flight
Can’t blame her you see
My life is quite boring
The highlight of my day
Happens after I pray
Go to the YMCA exercise
Then watch the news prime time
I listened to favorite songs
Off key I sing along
Tune in to Poetry Soup
For inspiration despite my mood
Today there was no pain
I’d be happy to have this day again

There are a few people who motivate me
When I walk in the gym to workout I see
Balances of challenges a sea of humanity
Some with limbs that don’t move normally
The woman in wheel chair with a green smile
She’s moving and meeting her own goals now
The man using his walker has courage so loud
That inspires the lot of us even the small child
In the pool they are free to move
Silly me too embarrassed to try to
I can’t swim and once had lessons too
I’m watching them as I do what I do
You may not know who you indigo inspire
Just by being who you are you lift higher
Yourself and others despite dilemma's red fire
You are an earthly star press on towards desire

Walking in the local YMCA
Onyx sneakers ready to slay
Reality red I’ll workout today
Kinda teal tired still I will stay
On the bike and lifting weights
Unisex rooms everyone is great
Thigh muscles cry get in shape

If you know your history you know that the black achiever is one,
Step down from the NAACP for youth student in high school,
My mom said now a days they are doing remarkable things,
At the time I was there we did not have a local president for our club,
In 2007 the regional summon for North Carolina was just starting,
And I met student that was Black and Latino going off to major,
University at the time I was unsure of which college to go to,
And only one major University that was going accept due to fall,
Sick in High School I did not want to go to the ceremony which,
Was some big name corporation representing that day,
I won both outstanding member local and at the summon,
And when I did not wanna go the director call and told me,
They was going give me scholarship for community college,
Later in life I just happen to went to College.

Mounted on one wall
a board wrapped
in brown paper.
A signal of
impermanence for children.
Painted were a rainbow
and a hundred tiny hands
in the colors of poster paint
all spread palm up,
receptive, uninformed.
As I heard the
echos of soprano voices
I felt the fantasy of tiny fingers
brushing my
sophisticated face.
Smiling all around,
the people brought
the smiles in.
They were not
manufactured there,
but heated in the lives
that came there,
retaining their warmth
through the hours,
saying hello and hello
and welcome everyone.
