White rope of sunlight
Tethered through my chest
Shot clean through to my spine.
Gordion knotted to my backbone.
I can feel the knuckles of it
Between my shoulder blades.
Pinching rope with a yawn.
No contortion reaches the lonely
Mark, the treasure on a map.
I have never begged for the sword,
I never imagined needing it.
My wrists are too weak,
Sinew is salt, muscle manicled.
Sometimes, as if in a dream
The rope slackens as sunlight
Slips beneath the sleep crusted
eyelid of dusk. Dust on the
windowsill dances—-Celebrating.
Is it for me? A reverie? Or
The potential, praise for one more day
Unswept, unkempt, a knot of effort
Unmassaged can swell to blackness.

Withering daffodils are unnoticed--
my attention shifting mid-spring
to what’s new, more colorful.
I try not to see the dandelions,
glaring like headlights of oncoming traffic
whose presence will not be denied,
until beloved hyacinths
rescue the moment with spires of splendor,
rising as nature’s signets,
releasing what nostrils crave,
introducing the triple crown of spring--
hyacinth, lilac and viburnum.

Spring flowers
Artemisia bear the colourful foliage
Bluebells carpet a magical sight
Coreopsis and cherries blossom
Daffodils are seen in jovial mood
Eranthis buds as the snow melts,
Forsythia screams it's spring time,
Grape hyacinths trumpet arrival
Hellebore shows surprising resilience,
Irises have a charmed goodness,
Japanese anemones pop up in cheer,
Kangaroo paws giggle,
Lilacs give sweeter fragrance
Moss phlox jewels open alongside tulips
Narcissuses dance in joy,
Oriental lilies add colour and drama
Pansy prefers being cool,
Quietude of poppy charms
Redbud feasts for the eyes,
Snowdrop anemone fragrances fortune,
Time for hearty Asiatic lily to hail,
Unfolding beauty of Orchid,
Virginia bluebells and viburnum
Witch hazel adds touch of yellow
X factors in birds of paradise,
Yellow trillium adds a true zing
Zinnia gives lasting affection and goodness.

PREVARICATION
why now? said I, with sunrise in bloom,
can it not wait for silvery moon?
what if I tell her my knee has once more,
locked-up with swelling, can't get to the door!
viburnum you lovingly bought at the market,
must wait one more day, alone on the carpet!
the shingles I promised I'd fix by nightfall,
must hang snaggly toothed, and with luck, won't fall!
your armoire whose foot has cleaved in two,
can wait one more day, I'll be in the loo!
all through the years, you always would say,
"don't put off 'till 'morrow, what's best done today!"
there is one last thing, I think you should know,
my love for you dear, continues to grow!
