A tender heart
is capable of what?
A warm light
in the coldest
and darkest
moonless night;
An embrace
and refusal
of playing
the arrogant
and smart;
I see but then what?
A harmony of
rain droplets
carefully descending
everywhere around
touching our cheeks
offering more of life
and wiping out
tears of deception;
I see! What more?
A reminder
that pain is just a drill
among the drills of life
targeted towards
our weakness and fragility
and meant to make us
feel strong and learn
a daunting lifelong lesson.
I see but then also what?
A tender heart
is capable of courage
Like a noble soldier
Deciding to turn down
an invitation of death.
A candid heart
beating to life
refusing to join
dancing with death
and unwilling to fall
in the trap of taking
desire for love.

Fairly
Squarely
Rarely
Barely
Shot from the hip fairly, squarely true
Loaded clip but, rarely, barely drew
1-19-2018
I have struggled from the fetal curl
just to burst upon the world
To reach, to grow, to strive;
I have stretched to be alive.
Years have come and passed.
Upright I’ve stood against the lash.
The toxic fumes waylay my breath
twist my form but I know not death.
Side by side we stand and dream
a forest farmed without a scheme.
Trunks and branches, root and bole
on we soldier to keep man whole.
To clean the air, to bring you shade,
to offer God’s beauty in the glade.
A simple yearning toward the Son
to help mankind, till day is done.
