“The two sides sit

like the cheeks of one’s ar*e

Wage a Dollar: Stripping For Love

What our parents told us
About truth, love, and purpose
Is dripping saggy from a nail in the wall

Take my hand gypsy love
Banish my broken tongue
Make me love the day!

Minimum Wage

There was a young woman with daughter

She worked more hours than she oughta

Worked her fingers to the bone

Needed a payday loan

To pay for the shoes that she bought her

Confessions of a Wage Slave

Time paces
-tick, tock-
life trudges between its
tick, tock.

hurry, hurry
-tick, tock-
rush to all the garbage pails
each minute means
another few cents
stalling means
no job to pay the rent
tick, tock

eat, eat
-tick, tock-
slender meals and bitter thoughts
of life and all its tick, talk.

Premium Member A Weary Day’s Wage

The weight of the day begins to fade,
As shadows stretch where light has played.
Unlace the boots, let stillness grow,
And feel the clock begin to slow.
Now close your eyes imagine a golden gleam,
A heavy coin within a dream.
Reach out your hand and take the prize.
You’ve earned the peace behind your eyes.

The olive trees in the landscape
near the village,
Have working-class trunks
and no illusion
Of becoming middle-class trees.
They refuse to grow
in a plant- nursery and be tampered with
by botanists.
They do not envy tall palm trees.
Good luck to those who see the world
through an elevated height.
Good soil and water the plebian olive tree wants
it has deep roots and will not fall
in a storm.

Cunning's Wage

Oh how I'd dreamed my love was true-
'Till he rose from my arms and went to you,
And then to yet another's bed
And all the while, "I love you," he said!

He took from you your sweetest wine
Then back to me, to drink of mine-
While we both gave free our trust
He snared several others to please his lust!

Now, you and I, poor fools are we,
Yet not so much a fool as he!
For he who practiced to deceive
Shall Cunning's wages full receive...

She slept, slept her daily wage

For children’s maw a woman slept,
When not, wage and daily bun slept.

In hope that at late last he’d come,
Windows, leaving doors open, slept.

The night, shadowy more than shy,
On spreading her dark omen, slept.

‘I need none whoso in all world’,
My pride, in death all undone, slept.

Dog-tired, enduring my burden,
Me all awake, my divan slept.
