Patch Katt

Patches cat she has a feed,
behind her at the other bowl,

Grandpas
This is what they used to do,
Grandpa's made their own rules,
Sit on verandah on sunny morn,
Read the sport, paper at dawn,
Then to read the obituaries,
Ensure still alive, you see,
Finally, they passed to glory,
Grandpas so loved, their story!...

Vander You Make Me Wonder
Vander you make me wonder,
just how someone is so prettier,
than every other human creature.

Everytime you smile with splendour,
Vander you make me go gaga,
and my heart melts like magma.

Vander you made me wander,
like a vendor in the estates of Runda,
when you walked down that verandah....

Red Rose
RED ROSE

I AM VERY GLAD TO SAY AT EARLY MORNING.
AT MY VERANDAH BELL IS RINGING.
I SEE RED ROSE BLOSSOMS IN MY GARDEN.
I SHALL SEE AND CARE SO THAT NO ANY BURDEN.
 SEE IT NICELY.
EMBRACE IT HEARTILY.
BUT I WILL NOT TEAR IT EASILY.
RED ROSES ARE TO BE KEPT IN MY HEART CORDIALLY.

Grey hair blown by the cool evening sea breeze as he sat alone in the dark verandah, riding through a maze of past events on a wooden rocking chair, with his trembling fingers he slowly etched memoirs in thin air.

a letter of love
to his departed dear wife
hope we meet again

On the Impending Death of My Father
Out on the front verandah
We'd share a bottle of silence
And watch a twenty-eight in the dead Jarrah tree -
Neither of us thinking of the death that was to be.
I'd produce a flask of wit
And you'd follow with a chuckle -
The low, breathy kind,
Like a 'packet-a-day' kookaburra
Just beginning to wind up.
No, not much to say,
All said in our glasses
As we sit
And wait...
For the long, quiet night....

Riding Heaven's Waves of Love
Tinky dearly loved her twinkies she as Gertrude; two vestal virgins....
Sitting aneath curvatures verandah every night at twilight they would meet
Sharing this somewhat cyclamatic after dinner treat; serenades sprinkled heart ?
Joy the reverie in every bite they would invoke; daydreams lost amid creamful swirls..
Riding heavenly waves of love her sweet cakes, Tinky and Gertrude; priceless, baby girls....

Myalup
one day working
the frets
i discovered the song

and I played
it over and over
hoping she would

hear it in her distant
land where she
had sea and beach

long bush tracks
and a bike for
the lake’s perimeter

i dream that she
will hear it
still on an evening

sky and a darkly
hidden verandah
breathing my fingers’

lilting on my buzzing
sunburst axe and
love’s discordant harmony...

My Piece of Sky
I lived in that old mansion,
It had a verandah,
Face to sky and open,
I returned tired after day’s hard work,
After taking my supper,
I would set up a bed,
In that verandah to lounge and rest,
I would stare up in the sky,
And look at the bejeweled spectacle,
Watch the stars,
And imagine the distance,
My eyes were focusing on,
It gave me an immense peace,
As I looked and contemplated with my piece of sky,
Soon thereafter I used to fall asleep....

Gods and Devils
One day I met a lady,
Who nursed a vulnerable bird,
Who somehow, landed in her verandah.
God I thought, has His abode in her heart.
The very next day I saw that woman,
Hitting a stray dog with a stick,
Who somehow, managed to get into her verandah.
“Has Devil overtaken the God?” I asked myself.
That shocked me a lot and then I concluded -
Gods and Devils are nothing but states of mind.
