Life's Bore
when one is fobbed off
no doubt a pain in the butt,
self-consciousness reigns.

Souly Yours
I want to be manipulated
and made into
The River's self-consciousness
cleansed and new with every bend
so that I may be

Epigram 5
Self-awareness must not be confused
With self-consciousness which can be
Devastating for people with fragile egos
You cannot be as good as your inner self....

Friends
Forever and always a shoulder to cry on
Rendering self consciousness
Igniting hope and love
Enabling strength and will
Never letting you fall
Dependent on each other
Staying by each other's side when times get tough...

morbid guilt
comfort me in

a channel of perfection
through wisdom
and perpetual light invite
my self consciousness to dine

Ballad
Squeals
At 3:00 you hear the squeals
As children race from school.
Exuberance goes hand in hand
With youngsters, as a rule.
As puberty advances
And the kids hit junior high,
Such squealing seems the type of thing
They’d have to justify.
Self-consciousness wreaks havoc
With the way a person feels,
So fallen by the wayside
Are those unimpeded squeals....

Common Threads
Collective self-consciousness,
the well where I draw
old voices and struggles
lie deep in its craw
What’s shared but unstated,
reflexively pawned
to borrow ungiven
the right to what’s wrong
Collective self-consciousness,
polarity’s friend
unspoken meridian
between fact and pretend
To wait in the memory
of what’s yet to come
released by the moment
—humanity won

legacy of Hilda
Hilda is the opposite of shy; she is not hiding in any way.
She flaunts her stuff without any self-consciousness.
She knows she looks dandy and prefers skimpy clothes.
Other farmers' wives adore her, they do not care.
She can walk down the train track with barely a stitch on.
No one makes fun of her, because it is Hilda and she is special.
She is friends with everyone and builds people up, in a genuine way
They gravitate toward her like puppies, wagging their tails....

Self-Conciousness
Self-Consciousness
White noise surrounds us each day. We do not even hear it over the din of living. Life is noisy, a constant barrage of sounds from all different directions, in all different pitch. A phone, music, loud heated discussions. The very moment I get an answer wrong, one can hear a pin drop.
“A pin can be heard”---
Dropping tinny to the floor
Why is it so quiet?

Henry Dancing
Dancing with abandon
Is what children tend to do.
They bust their moves with untamed joy,
Their pride just beaming through.
Yet when self-consciousness begins,
They hold their true selves back
And spontaneity may never
Clamber back on track.
I love when Henry dances,
(He insists I join right in)
For no one watching can control
An ear to earlobe grin.
I dread the day embarrassment
Will rein in his delight,
‘Cause Henry’s dancing makes me feel
Like everything’s all right....
