I gaze at them forlornly,

And hope they aren’t autumn-like
Before this all shall pass.

Though fall’s my favorite season,
Those rusts and golds, I think,
Won’t dazzle near as much without
Their prior greens and pink....

She sits amongst the broom and vines
staring into my window.
Solemn and quiet, not moving at all,
on the side of the hill below.

She sits inside this pane of glass.
Her tail twitches as she spies
another cat in the yard below.
Each frozen, as eyes meet eyes.

Two cats watching. One in, one out.
A staring contest between the two.
Then softly the raindrops start to fall
and now ... the contest is through....

thinking about that homeless man
as i caress a cup of 
designer coffee

on every pane of glass snowflake i see his frozen face
as vanilla creamer slides down my throat

saw that homeless man
three days in a row
a snowman nesting on the same corner
but I never invited him home
for a bit of warmth
to hear his forgotten story
 
karma is barking at the foothills of my soul
"you may be homeless someday
homeless
cold
forgotten."...

Shattered glass

The glass all shiny
Stands almost invisible
Filling a gap to form a window
In the old Georgian house
Letting you see the wonder beyond
The shiny pane of glass.
Until one day
It begins to fall apart
Looking dull and broken
As slowly it crumbles
Piece by piece
The glass shattering cascading down
Resembling a ferocious waterfall,
As you roll away
Being washed by waves of glass
Tumbling down, swept away
Like shattered glass...

Every building in my view
Has perfect little squares
Of windows lined up neatly
Which I gaze at, unawares.

From where I sit, I cannot see
The curtains, shades or blinds,
The distance meaning if I stare,
Then no one really minds.

And yet, behind each pane of glass
Some lives are being spent,
Each one unique, no matter what
The co-op fees or rent.

The city houses millions,
All with windows facing out,
But we never know what life
Behind those windows is about.
