Ode to the Nuthatch.
that little Assup.
It hunts on trees,
for seeds bugs and nuts.
It won't hunt head up,
it doesn't find as much.
Ode to the Nuthatch,
That Wise little Assup.

My Grand Pa always called them Assup's
It seems Apropos.

A blue jay cries high in the tree
on a branch, vibrant blues we see

A cardinal pair perched for seed
as the bright red male takes the lead

A chickadee lands as he sings
a dee, dee, dee and flaps his wings

A grey nuthatch lands upside down
and feeds never turning around

Squawk
SQUAWK

A nuthatch built a twiggy nest

A cockatoo showed off her elegant crest

                      A bluejay stole a hummingbird's egg

A flamingo sleeps on just one leg

A seagull fought for an ocean snail

And Daffy Duck pulled Donald Duck's tail!...

On the Deck
Chipmunks scamper; bees buzz by.
Gaily flits a butterfly.
Caterpillar moves a notch;
On my bench I sit and watch.

Nuthatch calls and near my ear
Mosquitoes let me know they're here.
Hummingbird stops by to drink;
From my perch I pause and think.

In the city, people stream
But here, I'm all alone to dream.
Nature beckons; with delight
I answer with the words I write....

Premium Member I Am Rather Pygmyish
I am rather pygmyish
Attitudinally challenged
Not an owl or a nuthatch
Which are supposed to be pygmies

I have no idea why I am down here
Closer to the five and six year olds
Maybe it is so they will not be afraid of me
And it has been working

Every night I used to pray let me grow
I forgot to add which direction
A little detail I left out
Which has kept me short and now I’m stout...

Waking Up To the Birds
There's a Nuthatch knocking on my door,
Politely asking me for more,
And Chickadees chirping por favor.
The Blue Jays are squawking all out war,
A Crow just told me to do my chore;
There's a ruckus brewing I can't ignore.
The feeder is empty. The Birds implore...

I am awakened by my snore.
Is that somebody at my door?

Pink tulip please the merry nuthatch said.
On your lapel? Oh no. On my head.
It has such fragrance, fancy indeed.
I’d wear it proudly with my feathered tweed.

An acorn topper for me, oh please.
Shy cardinal said to the passing breeze.
Fashion me a cap of gold thread said Ted.
He loved a bit of royalty on his head.

A red hummingbird had naught to say.
Quickly turned tail and flew away.
Robin politely waited for her turn.
These bird hat preferences made my ears burn....
