Wood Rats
Caustic soda smells!
Teeming with logs, bark and slabs.
Motors at the vats

Pump and pump strong til
Suddenly! Circulation
Stops by the wood rats....

Everyone is brave
inside the café
Tall glasses of courage,
fear toasting itself
The sound of the motors,

The Oldsmobile
For General Motors, it must have been a difficult decision. They decided to discontinue Oldsmobile as a division. There were many Oldsmobile dealerships found near and far. If they still exist, they are now selling another car.

Ant
An ant motors
Like a wind up
Toy across my
Floor.
I resist my urge
To crush it _ why?

Because being so
Complex a
Creature – such
Wonderful design
Pristine precision
Perfection –
Were I to
Commit such a
Travesty – I
Dare say with
Shame – I would cry!...

Nightingale, the full moon rises
sing me from the Sassafras:
mock the sounds of motors passing,
trill sweet of the small brook's flow,
warble out a troubadour's tale,
call my trembling dear to me.

Polio
It effects my brain,
It effects my frame.

Oh! Polio it's deadly horrific,
And so bad is it's fame.

Slowly, steadily it eats my motors...
Cuts off the signals from my brain.

The only remedy, that has always been...
Hold me mama, I need vaccine!
Hold me mama, I need vaccine!...

An earful of breaks...
in overnight silence,
the ticking clock,
crickets chirping,
r-r-r-r-r-o-w-l!
a cat fight,
midnight,
a siren blares,
dogs howl,
a hooting owl,
the mouse...
at prowl,
a plane zooms...
on high,
motors, whining,
tires, as
trucks and cars
go by,
all announcing...
River City life,
Louisville, Ky....

Rip
When you were ten years old,
you lived in the 19th centrury,
never thinking, knowing,
the hum of odd machinery,
enlightenment, a few years later,
electric symphony, motors
and war chants screaming
after depression, God dying
somewhere face-down in a
German prison, and with
60 odd years, the greying beard
and wet eyes contemplated drying
five feet underground in 1965....

Unseen Land
Bright rays of light shine through the leaves,
warming my face,
the paths are trampled,
footprints sunk in the muddy ground,
drops of water rest on leaves,
ticks wait to grasp onto passing victims,
clouds roll slowly through the sky,
imitating daily life and abstract art,
birds unseen yell at each other,
and motors roar in the distance,
reminding me I'm an alien in a foreign land....

Premium Member Silent Skulls
its common but unnatural
to never have moments of
complete silence
where the entire world is turned off
maybe that's what heaven's all about
an eternal silence filled with soul bubbles
intermingling-exchanging silent pleasantries
no motors or screaming neighbors
or childhood screeches
thin walled moans
or deathbed groans
just birdsong mist
drifting through the silent heart
of heaven...

Silent Sunday
Silent Sunday Still, how still is the hour; No voices, no motors, bare breeze; No church bells ringing. Tired workers sleeping, children quiet; Silent sparrows satiated; Nor church bells ringing. Smells of bacon seeping; Cartoons behind walls playing No church bells are ringing. Priorities shifting from worship to work; To laws of labor and lucre; Silenced the church bells’ ringing.

Muscle Cars
I've sat here and thought about muscle cars
Big beefy motors that roar and tyres smokin' hot
And when you see a movie they are the cars of the stars
When the dream sequences come they are the shot

Their colours are red and black as a matter of fact
The leather upholstery is just worn in enough to show
And these are the cars that count - that's the fact, Jack
So hitch up your trousers and know they're the go.

The Robot and the Ghost
The robot fancied he could write,
And so he scribbled through the night
And without fail sent off each tale—
Soon the world would know his name!

His levers clicked, his motors purred,
His gears and little wheels, they whirred—
But all came back with printed black
Notices that read the same.

At last the robot hired a “ghost”
Who fixed his manuscripts till most
Of them were placed, and soon they graced
Magazines—for cash and fame!...

I Belong
A crow and a seagull lift up the sun
With "Caw!" and a bright white wing.
Swift cars wheel round the shopping ground;
I hear their motors sing.

New steaming clouds from canneries rise,
Their growing billows pillowing skies.
What a great delight to see and hear
The work of nature and man so clear.

Who would disown it, who'd say nay,
To the joy of being on this beautiful day?
Not I; I love it, love it strong;
This is the Eden where I belong....

A Smoke
A cigarette

Dawn and the mist, what else expect
On Lake Martin early spring?
Swamp cypress dripping with Spanish moss.
I have stopped rowing, water swirling around
Oar blades.
The silence is absolute; I dare not inhale
A bird shrieks, the lake shudders
An evil thought has entered Paradise.
I hear the faint noise of outboard motors
The moment of ethereal stillness was gone,
I lit a cigarette smoke inhale, blow
Rings of delight in the morning air....

To hear just nature now long

Just a few minutes of quiet
A peaceful interlude
Soothe a restless worried spirit
Regain right attitude

As an orange tip of the sun
Peeks through cobalt blue clouds
And fog's dampness saturates all
My thoughts become so loud

What, where, how, what if dominates
Silence them my soul fill
Let the Holy Spirit control
Let peace permeate will

What Is That Blinking
Steady in the arch of an old oak tree,
Where limbs have crackled and fallen,
Lives the North Star, saying “hello” to me,
As I wander and watch the night.
There seem to be stars circling around you,
But they roar with the motors of planes,
And I imagine their tired weary passengers,
Sleeping, dozing, longing for their destination.
You meet me each night on my walk,
Though sometimes hidden by a passing cloud.

You remind me of that Holy Star,
And Hope blinks down from above....
