Power is an intoxicating spice
Oily politicians line the public troughs with it
Wealthy corporations dress it up in lofty mission statements
Erotic mistresses ooze it to extract favors from lovers
Reformers inevitably glom onto it to achieve dubious ends

Name
A Portland man found himself in perpetual gloom
Invited a pretty gold digger up to his room
He paid her well for special services,
Asked her to be one of his mistresses
And learned later she swept him cleaner than a broom.

Limerick
I saw him standing in the street
he so vacant eyed and weak,
refused to see me as I passed
For I recall the summer last,
when fireflies shimmered in the stream
and he had promised me a dream
before he set his soul on fire
with mistresses of white desire
and now his ashen face decries
the way a burning passion dies.

My poor poems, neither rhyme nor scan, a scandal be damn,
as grand grammarians grumble and crotchety critics cry tumbrels,
while trendy topic pickers poke fun at one so dumb, as so nice and precise
mistresses (or masters) of the art pull me prettily apart; I just go my way -
smile, sigh, ponder and pray that the Muses dear will inspire me without fear.

a passing taste
between
dripping candles.
dressed in stories
remembered
and told,
of mothers
fathers
wives
mistresses
and
prison.
some died
some could have died
some
should
have
died.
and some
never
die.

Old King Troll
Had a very long pole
And a very long pole had he
He called for his wife (she’s his trouble and strife)
And he called for his mistresses three
King Troll sat in the middle … his wife said you’re on the fiddle
This fact King Troll couldn’t deny
All the women took a swipe at him and gave him a black eye!

Rhyme
Things matter not
to those joy making,
love's mistresses.
As hearts tame minds
joy is set.
Lythe lush laughs
glancing off walls
through home halls
going room to room
dismissing gloom.
Smiles that crease
one's lonely lips.
A waltz in time
that turns turns
dancing off eyes
with happy cries
filling empty hopes.
Few know how
to partake,
indulge just enough.
There will be always
more to make.
