We are the landlords
in our own hearts,
but guests in other hearts,
no matter how long
our stay in their territories lasts
I love Lucy not Mister Ed
one was love the other a horse
I laughed more with Lucy of course
loved their landlords Ethel and Fred
Mister Ed would put me right to bed

To how much hell
I put these landlords
Through I guess
It was just a matter of time
Before I got thrown out
But now its so hard
To find someplace to live
On this one I better be good

But landlords rhyme with none of the same
They want rent,not metaphor
They say'' your poem won't mop the floor.
I wrote a sonnet,soft and brave-
He mailed it back: ''Pay or Pave!''
So now I rhyme to save my head,
My muse sleeps hungry, my landlord's fed.

Every traffic light.
Every petty fight.
Every lonely night.
Every petty fool
Every lapsing rule.
Every pistol premise,
True.
Every laughing,
Gapped tooth fool.
Every me,’
Every you,
Even landlords,
Priests and tools
Are each a tenured
part of school.
The underworld...what rules
Dark and haunted...these lands
Beings of the supernatural...gods or kings
House holds held in trust...landlords
Pools of darkness...to swim here
Abounding all around...one's aware of danger
Walls stretch past...the depths
To what end...no one play's
The yards guarded...no noise heard
Against the outside...sounds lie
The manor of lords...keeping watch
What beast walk's...for the unknown
